hi,
i have a 388 but no instructions for it. i also have a dbx 266. how do i use the compressor while recording? or is it best to wait until i'm mixing?
thanx,
Paul

Compressors can be used before and after a track has been recorded and it's generally best to compress going in so you don't overload the tape and then have the comp available to compress other tracks as you complete your project.

A compressor is best plugged into the insert loop on the channel you are tracking with on the mixer and you will need an insert cable which will give you an in and out point to get the signal to flow out of the mixer, into the compressor and then back into the mixer again.

Most compressors will come with a diagram that will show you how to plug it in so don't worry about not having the manual.

Cheers! :)

On the 388 the inserts are two seperate 1/4 inch female plugs so he just needs two 1/4x1/4 cords to get hooked up.

If you look round the back of the mixer section you'll see two 1/4" jack sockets side by side in each channel marked "Access Rcv and Send". This is where you plug your signal processors (comps, gates, eq and the like) in.
