Wow. I wonder if he would be willing to put together a detailed tutorial on how to do all those great mods. For due compensation of course.

Even though it would most likely end up being yet another best intentions project on my part.. it might not be before I managed to get a few channels done..

A souped up 388! I love it!!

So, sweetbeats, is that a real improvement? Do you have any idea or guess if what they did would in fact make an improvement? Just curious.

Yeah...saw that. Isn't that something?

SteveM, I don't know if I'm the right one to ask...I was gonna look at the service manual for the 388 and see what was in there originally, and I'd know more if I'd done more testing at this point of the channel I recapped and upgraded opamps on in the M-___ mixer to know what kind of a difference you might hear. In theory it would be cleaner, more dynamic and quieter, but I don't know enough about all the mods that were done to say more and it all depends so much on the design of the unit itself and that gets over my head. In the end though, I think enough of us agree around here that the 388 is a great sounding piece of equipment in its original form, and it is clear that the seller did some illogical stuff too. I wouldn't have paid $1245 for for sure, particularly when there is questionable logic. "Better" is so subjective y'know? And sometimes what we like about a piece of gear, unbeknownst to us, is the noise and distortion. Sometimes you castrate a piece of gear by making it "better". BUT...who's to say anything until they've heard it anyway. I'm at risk of being a pontificator.
