I am NOT a Gear Whore. ;)
ok so i've put in so many hours on this. i took a ghetto midi file from the internet and fixed it up a bit. Tom Sawyer, Rush.

its like 30 seconds.

ok so, it sounds pretty darn good on my monitors and even on my computer speakers. now on myspace, it sounds like crap through both! the drums are thin and weak, along with everything else.

i hear it most when the hi hats are hit open and then closed.

and here is the same exact file hosted,

anyway, rip me to pieces guys, tell me i suck at life.

Wow you suck at life.

Actually, it's pretty short to be able to form any solid opinions on it...

You said this was a MIDI file? Run through a VSTi or something?

Sounds good to me. Drums sound kind of "thin" but they still sound good. The synths sound cool too.

I'd like to hear a longer clip though.

Doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't sound too 'real' either - if thats what you were going for. Sounds like a cel-phone ringtone. :p

Just keep jacking with it.

I looked at your myspace site, and you have a lot of shit to play with. Your profile also says youre 16. You've got some cool parents. :)

I thought for the style it was pretty cool.
and hey an 30 hours for 30 seconds, that's a hour per second.
I bet next time you'll double the ratio:)

Anyway I thought it was cool for an electronic song.

F.S.

It was fine. It sounds a bit "midi", but thats what it is. Sounds fairly close to the original. I would probably "humanize" it, or take out some of the notes and play them in real time. Geddy isnt that accurate on keyboards.

thanks guys.

yes i have a ton of crap to play with ;)
my parents could care less honestly. they think i'm crazy and 'wasting my money'...

humanize more eh? thats do-able. i didnt want to go overboard and make it sound real sloppy.

i wish i could have a longer clip for ya. i'm learning the guitar part and the bass part so i can replace the midi with real stuff for those parts. i chose this little section because it is instrumental. i can't get a singer that can do it.

it's one of those back burner projects, i keep going back to it and changing stuff. the synth parts took me the longest, just playing with the sound and trying to get it close. the sweep in the beginning isn't supposed to be there, but i threw it in becuase i found the sample after searching for days ;) and its so friggin cool
.

From what I remember of the original, the synth sounds pretty damn close. Is good. Drums are a little dull though, you could maybe trigger some brighter snare samples
