Greetings everyone.

I've made a couple of recordings has I was play. But recently I seetled down and started making something more complex, with more instruments and complexity.

I started by recording guitar and keyboard. I've had no trouble this far.
Recorded acoustic guitar and then applied some cubase effects (I'm using cubase le5) and made it look as a bass of sorts, seemed the best solution since I don't have an actual bass.

Now I'm struggling with 2 issues.

1- I want backvocals, and I'm recording them, but I believe if I had a vocoder it would be a lot easier and accurate. However I can't afford to buy a vocoder, so I was wondering if there isn't any free virtual vocoders online.
I'm not looking for those weird robot voices, they would be a nice addition I could explore later but now I'm looking for something clean...maybe some chorus or delay but not much. The main idea is to record one voice and by pressing a chord on the vocoder I'd have a set of 3 or more voices same has mine recorded at the same time. (I believe that's possible right?)

2- The second issue is percussion related. So far I have a click track. I was told using midi drums don't go well with audio (I heard the have problems with syncing with the tempos) so I'm open to ideas for drum recording... needless to say I don't have drums.

I was thinking of maybe getting to know some nice guy/girl that played drums around here and having him/her recording the drums for the songs.

3- I've seen some videos on youtube, people testing testing vst's and other stuff. They have the program running on the computer and the keyboard plugged in. And they use the vst's activated by the keyboard.

I have Kontak 4 (that has lots of interesting sounds) and I have a keyboard, a yamaha psr e323 and a proper midi cable (the one recomended in the instruction book).
How can I plug these too together? I've tried to set the midi but all I got was a headhacke, I must've been doing something wrong.
I also can't record anything with Kontak 4 alone. I can't open it on cubase. How do you record anything with kontak 4? I can play it fine using the qwerty keyboard but I can't open it anywhere or record with it.

Thanks for reading and bearing this little newb of home recording.
I hope to read your answers soon :laughings:
Cheers

If you start with your MIDI drum track and work from there, you won't have any trouble "syncing"...

I recently added MIDI drums to a track that I'd recorded a couple of months before using a 113 BPM click.... in my MIDI drums this converted to 112.975 ( or something like that ) and was the tiniest amount off at the end of the track, but nowhere near audible...

No probls...

I always start with a drum track (along with guitar) but it should not be hard to sync things up in cubase if your timing is on :D

Vocoders, Chorus, Delay, Drums, Etc. many free VST's for Cubase: KVR: Audio Plug-in Database (Search Page) - VST, Audio Units, RTAS, DirectX, LADSPA, DSSI

how exactly can I find a vocoder... I don't even know how to tell if what I see is a vocoder or not...

is this a good one?

KVR: !j Development Rebel - Virtual Instrument

downloaded now Voctopus and Syncoder, I'll instal and try then out a little later.

here's where I got so far.

1) I'm still looking for decent vocoder software, I haven't found any that works. I did find some info and know a little better what I want. A vocoder applies voice effects like robot voice and etc. but all I may want to apply are some simple chorus or reverb, appart from that I want to make several voices and have them tuned up correctly to make a good chord. so I welcome any tips on this subject

2) I'm gonna get Ez Drummer. Best way to recrod drums without actually having them. Maybe in a far future I may buy some drums.

3) I still haven't found anything about this, still on my to do list.

look for pitch shifter or vocoder in that database search page - I have downloaded 3 different ones - i think thre is a free one called RoVee or something like that - another called auto-talent.

If you want Chorus and reverb there are a million free versions - check out the modern series of VST plugins
