I had this song lying around and I decided to upload it

Tell us what you think about the actual musical side to the song and recording side

Thanks

Tukkis,

Another kick ass song. Tell me man, how do you get that guitar sound? Nice trebly bass on this one too. The programmed drums sound kind of "mechanical" at times, but I know this is hard to get away from when using programed drums. Also, during the "ooohh aaaah" part near the end, something seemed kind of funny at first, like the bass hit a few notes too loud or the timing was a little off. Other than that, another hit!

This sounds like your typical teen song that I hear on the radio everyday...Not my kinda stuff....BUT....
I think that your recordings sound good as hell.
WHAT are you running your guitar thru because you have the sound down. And I like the way you construct your songs. Very professional sounding stuff that I can definately hear over the car radio. The only complaint I have about this song is that it ends so abruptly.
Give us a run down on your setup...

Real fun song. Overall I liked it. Great sound on the guitars. Cool sound in the intro. Good playing as well.

The bass could maybe use some compression. It tends to do its thing through most of the song, but at spots it gets a little "sparkly". And then it goes back and hides.

I'd continue to work on vocals. Most of them are fine, although not super strong. Certain words at the end of phrases kind of land with a thud. Slight pitch issues here and there (the harmonies around 2:20).

What was that beginning at 1:55? That didn't mix too well.

Yeah, this has a certain teen radio hit quality about it....but...gotta work on your vocal delivery just a bit. Maybe a little more urgency would help. More like "I 'have' to be there or I'll suffer the fate of some tragic greek hero who got caught messing around with the wrong goddess."

Sounds like you're getting better with your pitch. Still like your guitar sound.

Keep up the good work.

Good song.

Nice tight recording,I agree with the guitar sound,it rocks!

Do you write and play all the instruments?

Nice work!

Best to you,
Pete

Thanks for honest replies!

I use a behringer v-amp believe it or not for the guitar. I just record the part twice, pan the tracks and add some delay and reverb.

Give us a run down on your setup...

This is my equipment list:

Souncard- ISIS maxi studio

Monitors- Onkyo Home Stereo

Mixer- Behringer MX2004a

Dude (I feel like that ahole on that make a star show...) someone has to keep your head in it's proper place.

I had a long post ready but I removed it, bottom line: Get some formal training and post again in 3-4 years. You have God given talent, what are you going to do with it?

I have GOT to disagree with this post.

misterx,

Whoa!?! Now clearly there are some flaws in this song, but it's it's easily of average quality (if not a little better) for what people post in this forum. He's asking for some feedback on how to improve his work, and that comment provides nothing.

Tukkis,

This is a cool tune overall. Here are some comments:

1. The vocals are at times a little off key. Watch for that. It seems to show up most when you try to harmonize with the background vocals. Of course, this is vocal coaching from a guy who's last song involved screaming "TIMMY!" into the mic over and over, so take it with a grain of salt.

2. The drum sound was good, but a few of the fills sounded very artificial. You might want to listen for that.

Keep it up.

The guitars are good, but a little bit of bass heavy. A tad. Guitar, bass & kick drum sounds like muffled together a bit. You might want to free up some low-end by lowering the EQ on the guitar in that area, which is about under 200 hz. The part at little under 2:00 was a bit too tight. By tight, I mean the soundscape needs room to breathe in that part. There was kinda too much stuff there so it almost suffocated the whole thing. Maybe that sounded confusing, but I really meant that you should listen to the tracks separately at that particular point, and see if you can hear too many similar frequencies there. It sounded like it almost distorted on one point.

Another balls out tune. You're getting a really good sound, given what you're recording with. I like the song a lot. You've definately tapped into the sound of the day when it comes to teen angst rock. I try to take into consideration the equipment people are using when they submit on this board and I have no complaints in that regard.

Kick ass (again),
Jon

Am I the only person here who hears all the peaking in this song? And all the vocals are way too quiet. Possibly some cancelation on the drums, although it may be the peaking that I'm hearing. Everything is just kinda smushed together. It's not really music, just a lot of noise at this point. Especially since I can barely even understand the vocals!

Tyler657recpro - Yes, yes you are the only person.

BUT i have one suggestion.

Stand up. go to your car. drive to your nearest doctor.

AND GET YOUR EARS CHECKED!!

alternatively, take your sound system to get loooked at cause there is something wrong in that room your in right now!

damn computer speakers. now im gonna go out and by some genelecs!

Hey, it's ok to disagree with me. I'm by no means anyone important. But the bottom line is, compare an 18 year old guitar player with formal training to someone who has had no formal training and the difference will be staggering. I wonder if Tukkis can even read music yet? He needs to understand and consider where he wants his level of musicanship to be when he's 18-21 years old. This kid sounds good, I wouldn't have even commented if I didn't like (potential wise) what I heard.

Something for Tukkis to consider:

Right now there's a 15 year old kid somewhere taking classical guitar lessons to lean how to play flowing, emotional leads, with the dreams of becoming the next guitar hero, because he realizes he wants to be better than the other guy(s) when he finally presents his talent to the world.

Yeah, I get where your coming from...but what about the feeling and excitement of what rock and roll is all about. Rock has never been about studied musicians taking all of their knowledge and turning it up to 11. OK OK now Randy Rhoads may be an exception to that rule, but the excitement of making music, laying it down and having others hear it and comment on it...Thats rock and roll. I am not a big fan of the current music scene but we are all a product of something, musically that is, Tukkis is 15 and I think that he plays what he likes and what quite a lot of other people like as well. I'd rather listen to Tukkis than Malmsteen anyday!! He is a polite guy that is not thumbing his nose at anybody, but wanting to learn. I commend him for that!!

Actually, I'm gonna say it again. I think you have serious recording issues. The RECORDING sucked. I'm not critquing the music. It's peaking all over the place, and the vocals are barely audible. There's a lot of other stuff I hear wrong with it, but I'm not gonna try and point it out on computer speakers. But I can say is everything is just sorta squashed together. I think the drums could be louder, and the guitar could be quiter. Vocals need to be loudeR!!!!! There's a second guitar (not sure how to name it) in there at about 2:00 min. that should be way louder, and the lead guitar should be pulled back at that time. Mostly all serious mix issues.
