This isn't a full song yet. Its just an idea to get started.
This is just a little riff i wrote and played and am now showing to all you fine people.
Youll notice its not in time, because i just did it freehand without a click track. its not meant to be mixed in a song.
So i was just wondering what your comments on the use of reverb, eq, etc... as well as how good the riff itself is.

I was going for kind of a warbly reverby deep riff that kind of had a disonant feel to it but still was grounded in reality. make sense? :D

anyway, comments appreciated.

sounds definately like punk!!:D :D :D

seriously...could be a neat intro, or something. Do I hear noise reduction artifacts 'swirling' around in there??

verb sounds ok to me as a start....same with eq...

jury's still out on the actual riff though!!!;)

Yup...I agree...good intro to something....

Dude....you are just learning to play....aren't cha?

"Do I hear noise reduction artifacts 'swirling' around in there?? "

lol...yep. i recorded this with a squire strat, a 10 watt practice amp and a $20 radio shack mic. it was recorded without a preamp and right into the computer so obviously the noise level was tremendous. I recorded it back in october and have since upgraded all that gear....but yep, i did reduce the noise big time.

what do you mean just learning to play??
 :(

i've played guitar for 8 years. if your talking about the fact that its not in time well, thats cause it isn't. i didnt record it to a click track so i simply did one take and took whatever i got...even if it is way out of tempo and such.

what do you mean by that comment tho? i mean, its fine to say that but at least tell me why you said it.

Web,
I don't mean to insult you but,
I have heard 2 pieces from you...

neither one of them is what I would call "memorable"...ya know?
Both lack skill....just being honest here Web...that's all.

2?
the lowfi one was a joke...

but, at least give some constructive criticism. what do you mean by skill? I've said twice now that its not in time, but if theres anything else wrong than let me know.

Yeah...you know what?
Your right...
I have nothing constructive to add....
I apologize for posting dribble...
Good luck with your music man,
Joe

i hope you weren't being sarcastic...
i never meant to start a feud here...i just was wondering what you meant by what you said. thats all.

i mean, overlooking the fact that its out of time im just wondering what you didn't like about it. Im not doing this to push you into saying "ok, enough already, its good", i simply want to improve and you cant do that if you dont know whats wrong.

Ive heard your stuff too and its not really my thing. Doesn;t mean i think its bad or without merit, its just the whole different music for different people thing.

But if you let me know what you dont like ill try to improve and maybe next time it'll be better.

i guess everyone just likes different "kind" of melodies. My dad listened to apc's "3 libras" and said the guitar was really monotone and boring, however, i think its one of the best guitar riffs...ever. On the other side.. my dad really likes the guitar riff on Collective Soul's "Reunion" but it does nothing for me...

Nope...
Not being sarcastic...being sincere..
No feud here...OK?

Peace:D
Joe

well, it sure sounded sarcastic... :)
but really, what dont you like about it??? youre killing me by just leaving me hanging. :)

yeh webcyan i like the guitar progression. Just need to hear it in a whole song kinda context. I have literally thousands of little riffy things recorded on my hard disc that one day might fit into a song. I agree with everyone about it being a good intro to something, maybe even something heavier. Also I dont hear anything that would make me say that your not a good musician. I mean your not just playing bar chords here. Quite melodic. Nice progression, just finish it of and post again and show joro what you can do. Sorry joro I'm not treading on your opinion. Its just hard to tell a good guitarist from one melody, or two.

My only criticism is posting unfinished work. But then again its probly good to get opinions on a song as you write it too. So finish it dude and rock the thread.

Scott.

i guess i need to learn to take criticism dont i? :) ill learn...

i actually have written an entire song where that riff is used as the intro. Ill post it once im done and let you hear it in the the context of the sone.

truth is, im much better at singing .....(but, in the name of all things holy, DONT judge me based on what i did on that lowfi song i did. that was asting wierd and singing in falsetto so the other people in my dorm didnt hear me... :) ) .....and i feel that the vocals are by far the most important aspect, so once the song is done ill let you all hear.

i think i had it in some odd tuning when i did it. D# A# C# F# A# D#...i actually write most stuff in that.

so, what do you all think of the new avatar. ;)

I think the avatar sucks...it looks like you have just been picking out avatars for a short time. I've seen a couple of your avatars...and there's nothing really 'memorable' there...know what I mean?...I mean...the chick is a plain jane...lousy makeup...ya know? that isn't you is it???

I wouldn't even classify it as a lo-fi avatar either (or punk-ish)... Maybe I'd comb the hair, redo the lipstick, repost with the NEW avatar, and show everyone in this thread how cooool an avatar you really can come up with, and rock the visual world....really..!!!

for an avatar...it's a good start...but do I "see" visual noise still present between the pixels...?? I mean...you didn't shoot this pic with a digital camera with RADIO SHACK batteries, did ya??? sheesh...

Oh...is the avatar just a joke?? I think I get it....

just being "constructive!!";)

Weby,

Here is the delio. You sometimes post some wacky wild shit. All of us and you yourself agree with that. The problem is that most of us that don't play to click tracks yet still have a concept of time and can pretty much keep a pace. I am not saying that you can not do the same. However, that is a sure sign of a beginner where chord positioning is a bit vauge and it often takes a little pause to get it right. No offense to you. Maybe you could take a little time out to smooth the pace off in one of your posts, or make sure you play in key with your other tracks, or play in tune, so that we will not have to sift through 3 pages of disclaimers when we try to help. That way you will get some construtive results. I personally get so hung up on your disclaimers made in each post that I forget what the hell I was supposed to be listening too. Maybe you can post us a completed tune that you worked on a bit to set us all straight. Otherwise, you are gonna have to try to rub off your dork label that you have written on your underwear wasteband. :p

Cheers!

Fangar

Continue to work on that progression, its kinda ho-hum. However, I recommend an all out glutton fest at your local Pizza Inn followed up by a hearty portion of bean burritos. You'd be your own brass band, which would make for a nice accompaniment to this ho-hum track.

I think one would be an all out Ass Band after that recipe for mayhem.

Yikes,

ouch!

Possibly one of the reasons that someone figured you for a beginner is that most people that have been playing a while don't come up with 25 second riffs and consider them to be something to show the world.

Imagine if every guitar player in here posted every little 10 second noodle that "could be used for something."

I also don't get the disclaimers....what is it you want?

I'd like to hear something if you finish it, though! I'm not a dick...really;)

Good luck with your music, man:D

heylow the horrible

my god, you all are critical.

tell you what tho...ill stop posting random little things ive done and wait until i post a full song. :)
