2496 or 44

I read in descriptions of the 2496 that it has more than one input, but I have heard people say that it only has one. What's the deal. Ok, basically I have to get a new card, and I record Acoustic guitar, hand percussion, and vox. I never thought I would need more than one input until a friend and I wanted to record a jam session and have seperate tracks. We ended up going in one track and hard panning the inputs at the mixer (one left one Right), then splitting them up into seperate mono tracks at mixdown. So, I want to know what is the best to get with 250 clams. I don't think I will use midi that much, but I might, will I regret just getting a cheap extra sound card to do the midi? My current card doesn't have it.

when you say "the 2496" I'll assume you are talking about the audiophile 2496. alot of soundcards for recording have 2496 written on them and some people refer to the card as just "2496" the audiophile has 2 analog rca inputs, spdif and midi so in at sense its actually 4 inputs but for what most guitarist use it for its 2 inputs....they can be used as seperate tracks or one stereo track. i own one. bought it at the music loft for 160 something including tax (7% sales tax where i live....damn government wont allow us to have a lottery to bring that crap down). you can get it online cheaper but since most places online places dont have a return policy for computer components i just prefer to buy it at the store where i can raise hell and get arrested for disturbing the peace if it doesnt work. dont be turned off by the rca inputs either...there are cables that are rca to 1/4 so you can go from the mixer to the sound card with no big deal.

If you want 4 analog inputs, go for the 44.

If 2 is sufficient, or you need midi and/or s/pdif go for the 2496

what if I use midi through my usb, they have those midi-usb cables, are they a waste of time?
