Im just curious how many 2488 owners are using only there 2488/2488 MKII/2488 NEO alone.... with no computer help at all for tracking and mixing down

I use a NEO for tracking and mixdown. I only use a computer for the final master. The NEO is nice and simple, and that is in my opinion all that's needed for tracking and mixdown. I just wish the NEO could be automated for mixdown. I really only use the computer for mastering, because trying to fade manually with the NEO is a pain and sounds awful. Here is some of my work.

....and they are out there to be had a cheap prices unbelievable for what you get and also sound just as good if not better than a lot of the DAWS out there and without having to buy all the soft ware and hardware to get one setup. And never have to worry about Latency are crashes

I know people that been recording with Pro Tools and other DAW type recording systems and have ditched that and went to these all in one hard disk multitrack recorders that's making masters much easier than with there computer setups and a WHOLE lot less of a hassle !!! OK back to making music now that I got that out haha !!!

I agree with 100% about DAW's. Maybe its an "Old-school" sort of thing, but knobs and faders are much more intuitive for making music.
I started out with a Fostex 4 track cassette rig when I was younger, so these "Portastudios" are right up my alley. Couldn't be happier with the machine (except the automation), but I bet that would raise the pricetag significantly.
Thanks to you and witzendoz for the ELP compliment. That has always been one of my favorite songs.
and you are quite welcome about the ELP compliment, excellent rendition and recording of it and ELP has always been one of my favorite all time bands, saw them twice in the 70s !!!
YesI love the NEO and it should have followed the DP-02 with dedicated EQ,PAN and EFFECT SEND KNOBS !! and now it looks like after the 2488 has been thru 3 models and discontinued them (bad move on Tascams part) the DP-24 was a big mistake in my humble opinion. The memory cards are not a good idea,Id take the hard drive anyday over them, and besides the hard drives can be changed out for more GB and at decent prices.Right now the 2488,2488 MKII and the 2488 NEO is the right time to buy....cheap cheap cheap and probably one of the best portastudios ever made. I loved my NEO so much that I just found a 2488 MKII like new for like $365 shipped to me and WOW im impressed again and have 2 of them to make music with !!!and you are quite welcome about the ELP compliment, excellent rendition and recording of it and ELP has always been one of my favorite all time bands, saw them twice in the 70s !!!

....the thing I don't get is the old "I need knobs and faders". Fine, nothing wrong with that, but with most of these porta-studios, you're not using knobs and faders much more than you would in a DAW. It's not as if you have your EQ, pan, and effects knobs right there on the board. You have to call up a separate window for each of those things, and then adjust them with a Jog Wheel. How is that any better or more old school than using a mouse?
I don't buy that "I need knobs and faders"argument at all because it's simply not true.
