so any new things going on with the 2488's?

software upgrades?
I noticed my master fader still chopping off a bit on the fade out.
Also a multiband on the output effects would be nice to play with too.

Pro's or Con's and "watch out for this" issue?

Coolcat, nothing new that I know of. I've been having fun playing with the effects - finally got that whole can of worms figured out. Software version is still 1.02.

Having fun with yours?

I just recently gave up striping SMPTE time code to track 1, forced myself to test the midi synch. They fixed the midi synch (song pointer?) glitch with update 1.02 and now my 2488 and my sequencer synch up and random locate together perfectly! No more smpte! Love it!

Using it a lot lately and after a long series of scratch recordings and workups I'll be getting serious within a month.

Haven't done any upgrades, I'm v. 1.0 and it seems to do ok. Am I missing something?

As I recall, the 1.02 eliminates the problem that some people were having with loud clicks at the end of CDs. Couple of other bugs that I can't remember - mine came with 1.02.

It makes cd's? Just kidding, but I never use it, I basically use it as a big 788. Quite a few functions I need to read up on.

There was a problem with the bouncing and pasting functions, I dont know the exact details, but tracks edited by pasting would not export correctly or something, you have to bounce them to another blank track before they will export.

1.02 fixed that, and supposedly fixed the fader "fade out" issue where the sound would not fade out completely, it would just drop out suddenly at the end of the faders range.

yeah almost all the "problem posts" disappeared after 1.02, apparently.
nothing to report is good I guess?

still alot of unchartered territory on the 2488, in my case too...a fun adventure.

the "chop off" I referred to is very minor now. In the playback systems i don't hear a problem, only using the 2488 with phones on, way down at the final 2% volume or so. Don't hear it on playback systems, minor.

PhilboyStudge, I sent my 1.02 CD UPGRADE off to a friend, it was very easy to update (though I had problems burning/downloading one from the pc...operator error!)

still appreciative to who sent one to me. Maybe someone can burn you a copy?

1.02 was good work by Tascam......apparently.

2488 effects loop

Maybe someone can help me with my effects loop problem. I have effects send but where is my effects return? I want to plug a BBE into my mix.

There is no actual "send/return insert" on this machine. You have to use a couple of track inputs as returns. Apparently Tascam figured the bouncing and the 250 virutal tracks would be enough to circumvent the need for external loops.

Right, in other words, fizzy, the "return" is the input to an additional track. You end up with one track dry, one track wet, and mix the ratio.

(Thanks to Trillian, who answered this identical question for me in another thread - it's around here somewhere!)
