240 or 120 volts?

The amp I just bought has a switch on the back for 240 or 120 volts, which one should it be set on? I live in the U.S.

Also there is a switch for 25%. 50%, or 100%, and there is also a decible switch with 3 positions. Do these have to be in unisen some how?
 
I'm no electrician, but 120 volts should be a normal house outlet and 240 volts is usually for heavy duty stuff like ovens and dyers.

I would asume the percentages are the wattage rattings. I am not curtain. I would take a photo and post it.
 
US uses 120volts / 60cycle AC.

UK and Europe uses 240volts / 50cycle AC... that's why the other setting is there.

Put it on 120...
 
It was set on 240, I'll switch it to 120 and see if it's louder.
 
Yeah, you don't want that at 240...It was prolly bumped in shipping....
 
The amp is a carvin xv112 made in 1992 from the sticker inside the chassis.

After playing around with it for a few, I have to say that this is probably the best amp I have ever had. I have had:

1. Gorilla
2. 2 Peavey Bravo's
3. Yamaha 212
4. Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
5. Gibson Falcon 19RVT
6. 2 Marshall 18 watt clone's

This carvin has so many possibilities, The Lead channel is great, with a push pull pot on the lead pot and the master volume for xxx gain, fabuloso.

But the clean channel is better than the Fender I use to have, the extra eq allows so many sounds and is very chimey. Then I found the "bright" pull out on the clean channel volume pot. Very exellent, and I'm using my humbucker turned down, I can't wait until I add a nice single coil to the neck position of my guitar.

They should still make these amps.
 
The dB switch is a pad - it allows you to select a lower overall output level.

Preamp out allows you to route the signal from the preamp section of the amplifier to another power amp.

Can the dB switch be in a wrong position? Does it correspond with the 25,50,100 watt switch?

This amp is chock full of stuff.
 
Yeah...if i remember right...240 is Australian units....Europe i think is 220 and so is your standard three prong washer and dryer set up
what amp is it?

I don't think it can be in a wrong position relative to the input voltage selection of 120VAC / 240VAC.

I would also think that it would be independent of the 25/50/100 watt output selector.

As others have said, your input voltage should be 120VAC if you are in the US.

The 25/50/100 watt switch allows you to select the maximum output level of the amp. the dB switch allows you to further pad the output at any of those levels.

Disclaimer: I don't have one of these amps, but all these features are common enough for tube amps in general.

Perhaps someone could dig up some documentation for you?

Europe is 230-240 @ 50Hz. A US dryer outlet at 220/240 is NOT the same thing in any way as a European wall outlet.

I printed out the manual from the carvin site. I'll go through it. It was so old I never thought there would still be one.
There are some scetchy schematics I found for free too. Hard to read though. I looked in the amp last night, and thought it's not a handwired board, it looks well put together, and the tubes do not attach right to the board like in a lot of peaveys.
