24 Track at 44.1kHz/24 bit...What does it all mean?

I see Tascam is making a 24 track digital recorder with 24 bit/44.1kHz. I have heard that the more tracks you have, the more your sound suffers, but I thought that 24 bit was pretty good. Your thoughts please?

bear is correct

... i think what you heard about number of tracks in relation to fidelity was referring to analog tape machines (where width of tape to number of tracks is definitely a consideration). digital doesn't matter, except for the amount of space the number of tracks take up in the hard drive. 24 bit is pretty much the standard for digital recording, although we still have to contend with cd's being a 16 bit format.
