Between being and nothing
I've ordered a new laptop that should be here sometime next week. It's got Windows XP on it. I have a 24bit capable usb soundcard and the 24-bit version of N-Track.

I know that win2000's architecture and winxp's architecture are basically the same but I've heard that xp's bit recording is limited to 16 bit. Is this true? I mean, I can alway reformat and install Win2000, but I'd rather not go through the trouble if xp has the capability to record 24 bit files.

Also, what's been your experience recording in xp? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

BTW, laptop I ordered:

Dell Inspirion 8100, PIII, 1 Ghz, 30GB drive, 128MB ram (which I will promptly update to 384MB, provided the chip that I have fits.)

Thanks all!

I record 24bit on XP with no problem. There is nothing in XP's architecture which should restrict this. It all depends of the soundcard and software. If your soundcard works on 2K, it will most likely work on XP.
