24 bit input in Audition?

I use my PODxt to do all my non-acoustic guiatr parts. I love Audition (using 1.5) and use it for everything aside from MIDI/sequencing. Problem is, when selecting the input for Audition, you can only select 16 or 32 bit. The PODxt can do 24 bit. So, I'm assuming not, but is there any way I can get my 24 bit signal into Audition directly (i.e. without recording it in another progam and transfering it to Audition)? Thanks in advance.

This has been covered many times, and I wish Adobe would put an explanation in the Audition manual. 32-bit is Audition's native format, and it is completely compatible with 24-bit. Think of it, in simple terms, as having a gallon-and-a-half bucket that you never fill with more than a gallon of water...but it'll never slop over! If you want, you can do everything in 16-bit, but there's no reason to.

I failed to mention this important part: when I select 32 bit, no data is received from my PODxt. :(

Ah. That is important. Are you using digital outs on the POD?

Currently, I am using the USB output on the POD - so yes, digital. My other option is to run 2 (a L and R) TRS cables into my outboard mixer, from which I run an optical pipeline to my computer - perhaps that will allow it to work?

I assume you have the USB input showing up in the "Options/Device Order" window, and the proper input selected for the track. I had understood that 32-bit is compatible with 24, and in fact I feed ADAT lightpipe at 24-bit into Adobe Audition's 32-bit, and back out again for playback, as a matter of course. I have also used the USB inputs from a Tascam US428 at 24-bit without any difficulties. I've never used a POD XT but the whole point of standards is that everything plays nice together. That makes me wonder whether it's a routing, rather than a conversion, problem. Make sure the inputs are showing up in the Windows mixer, and are not muted, and then trace the inputs through Options on the Audition toolbar. I experienced an 8-channel soundcard that wouldn't record on more than 2 tracks, which I finally traced to my having unticked the box for "Try As WDM" for the first 2 tracks, but not for the other 6! In other words, a little thought and investigation should help you find the point where the signal is disappearing. One of the challenges of the software is that there are so many places you can run afoul if you don't know exactly where everything goes. I the case I mentioned, I blamed the mixer...until I noticed that the control panel for the sound card clearly showed signal on all channels! Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I don't have my DAW in front of me right now, but will try some of the things you've mentioned, soon. I know all of the Audition inputs/outputs are correct - I will be using the POD in audition @ 16bits with no problem and only change the bits to 32 and it's no dice. I'll repost again after experimenting more. ;)
