Does anyone know why when I record in 24 bit with cakewalk 9 I get a totally distorted signal? I get levels when the track is armed even without anything being played into the inputs. I 've tried everthing I'm using a Echo MIa card I've tried a terratec and a m-audio card with the same problem

Is it that cakewalk 9 will not record in 24 bit ?

Totally frustrated

CPA 9 is capable of doing 24 bit recording.

Make sure bit depth is set to 24 in audio options of cake.

Then make sure the soundcard is configured to match.

Also if CW and your sound card are set to 2 different "sampling rates" you could run into problems. For starters set both to 44K.

Sounds to me like your preamp/mixer gain is set too high.

What is it that you're recording, and what the signal chain into the sound card, and how are you setting your gain structure?

24 bit probs

well for starters I've tried every sampling rate and the mixer does not control this "ghost signal coming in" once the track is armed and record is pressed

Sorry, but I don't understand what you're telling me. Sampling rate is a part of the A/D conversion. I am asking about your upstream equipment (i.e., before your sound card).

I also don't know what you mean by ghost signal.

Can you describe what it is you are trying to record, and how everything is connected. The recording level should be established by your hardware preamp or hardware mixer. If you are adjusting the gain on the mixer and it is having no effect on the recording level, then either something is not hooked up right, or you are turning the wrong knob.

Also, is there a software mixer that was supplied with the Echo card? What does the signal look like in that mixer?

24 bitted

ok I have the soundcard installed and it has a mixer that comes up on my monitor, connected to the 2-1/4"phono inputs are patchcords that connect to a digitech amp modeler (genesis model) when I record in 16 bit the functionality of the mixer for the sound card controls the signal level into cakewalk fine and after i record a track I can play it back fine. Once I start a new project and try 24 bit and arm the track everthing is still fine as soon as I press record the levels in cakewalk go into the red and if I disconnect the 1/4" inputs I'm still getting a signal in the level meter in cakewalk about half way. I have to exit cakewalk and relaunch the program and start over to get the levels to operate normally and if I saved the project in 24 bit and re arm the track and hit record "presto" I'm in the red again. the mixer for the Echo MIa (soundcard) has no effect on the level going to cakewalk once I hit record.
