I was looking at sound cards and the guy told me that the Audiofile 24/96 has unbalanced inputs (RCA's) How will this effect me when running an XLR mike into a preamp.......is there a noise issue?

Thanks,
Rick

No .... just so long as your cable lengths are under 20 feet, you should be fine.

So what would be the preferred sound card of choice for home recording? I'm wondering if there are any with optical input and is this a way to go?

Thanks for the input (no pun intended there :) ) !!

Small world eh?

ClassicalMetal,
You may want to start your own thread, as to not hi-jack another's and create confusion as to who's talking to who and what not.
At any rate .... there is a butt-load of different soundcards that are perfectly suited to the home recorder. Some even with remarkable quality.
It all boils down to what your needs are.
How many simultaneous inputs you require as well as what other types of gear you would like to use in conjunction with it.
Your computers configuration and OS optimizations play a large part in the game also. Not to mention one of the biggest factors ..... Your budget.

P.S. .... Rick,
Yeah and the Internet makes the world even smaller. :)
It's craziness .... you could be talkin to a guy in China or even you next-door neighbor. Who woulda thunk?
