224 with mic

Can you directly have a mic into the 224 (no need for preamp)? I looked at the tech specs, but being a newbie I wasn't quite sure. I am deciding between the tascam 224 and the maudio audiosport quatro usb. It seems if you read the reviews some people love them and some hate the maudio.

I'm looking into both those products as well. From my understanding thru research, the 224 has a built in mic preamp. It's basically just an external soundcard of sorts.

Take note of the fact that the 224's preamps don't have phantom power. You don't need phantom power for dynamic microphones but you do for condensor mics.
