Not a big surprise to those following the pictures, but who could have said with precision that it was the "MXL 4000"? Anyone know what they mean by B-Stock?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=270624V (list price $1,199? wtf? how far the dollar has fallen! :D)

I think I'm actually going to pass, since I've got a couple of ACM-583s coming on the ship (as well as some better capsules waiting for them that I got from Ausrock), and $169 seems a little steep for yet another mic that I think would be similar.

But it still looks interesting - anyone have experience with this one or a near equivalent (with a different model number, as we often see)? This wouldn't be the first time I've been way far off with an initial assessment.

edit: and you gotta admit, that's an attractive blue-ish finish!

$1,199.00???

(list price $1,199? wtf? how far the dollar has fallen! :D)

list is $199.99 not that much of a discount

still not bad for multi-pattern .... somebody stop me!

anybody got experience with this mic?

makes more sense (and I suppose that's what it says on the stupid deal page), but just to back myself up -- the second link (the product page) currently says:

"$169.99 -or- $15/mo. - Finance Now
List Price: $1,199.99 Savings: $1030.00(85%)"

Yep, I was interested but not at $169. It's just not "Stupid" enough.
Hear that MF, ya gotta get stupider!!!

yup

I stand corrected...and I agree...not stupid enuff.

B-Stock usually means that it's refurbished (returned for a defect of some kind) or a scratch/dent.

Frank

They're refurbished. And their sister site, Music123, has the refurbished ones at that price every day. It doesn't appear to be a special sale. For sure, the regular price appears to be $199, not $1099 or whatever. That's just a silly, artificially inflated MSRP....

Yeah, I was ready to jump on this one... but it's the same as their normal "clearance" price for B-Stockers. And, normally the new mic goes for $199 with a free 603s.

So, to echo those above. We want more stupider!

The only way list on that POS is 1,199 is if it's in pesos.

Add a one and two zeros to that and you've got yourself a deal!

How much did you get?

One thousand pesos.

Yeah, it's more like 2056 pesos, but....

They did the same thing with the shakers. They had teh MSRP at $299 and they were selling them for $1.99. Pattern here?

Hey don't be badmouthing my shakers! They arrived today (see thread in "Other Equipment'). While I'm glad to have only paid $1.99 a pair (damn--that's two for one low price!--I bought multiple pairs!) I can clearly see how they're really worth $300. They're just so eggy, and yet shakey at the same time.

Were the eggs perhaps these?

Nope. Never mind. They were these. $1.99 is a good price, but they retain for about $3. Looks like "Add two zeroes onto that and you've got yourselves a stupid deal!"

Were the eggs perhaps these?

Heck no. Those are 1.49 for a single--that's insane! Mine were 1.99 for a pair. Check 'em out here.

But wait a minute--maybe the Rhythm Tech are worth 50 cents more per egg. My Jim Dunlop egg shakers seem, well, a bit too round on the bottom end, and a bit thin on the top end. Maybe I should order the Rhythm Tech shakers and do a shootout.

But oh man, what's the best preamp for an egg shaker shootout? I need one that doesn't scramble 'em, you know?

Heck, my brain's getting fried just thinking about it...

I got my eggs about 5 years ago for $1.99 from MF,,

I have used them a lot in peoples rap tunes...Nice to have something in the song that's real!!!

GXL 3000 is today's deal... for $99 each. That's low average, but still not quite stupid.

What's up MF? Let's see some real stupidity!!

Not a good deal at all. I see that both Front End Audio and 8th Street sell them at that price every day. The Musician's Friend regular price of $169 is more than the price of the GXL3000 Studio Pack (a GXL3000 and a GXL1200) from several places....

In short, the Stupid Deal of the Day appears to be a way for MF to get rid of overstock on products that didn't sell because either A. the prices were higher than everywhere else or B. nobody wanted them.

They used to have at least passable deals. Now, they're just a joke. MF should either start putting decent products at actual discounts on there or they should stop doing the stupid deal. I guess that's why they call it the Stupid Deal, though. They look stupid for calling it a Stupid Deal. :D
