WHAT IS THE XMG MUSIC CONFERENCE?

Here is just a small taste of the conference for you….The XMG International
Music Conference is the most premier invitational music conference in the
world, hosted in 10 major United States Cities, 2 major Canadian Cities,
and 5 major European Countries through out the year. Each artist that is
accepted to attend the conference will given the opportunity to personally
perform 3 complete songs in front of major record label representatives,
such as Warner Brothers, Universal Records, Atlantic Records, Epic Records,
Sony Records, BMG Records, Island Def/Jam Records, Capitol Records, Virgin
Records, EMI Records, Koch Records, TVT Records, and many other labels who are looking
for then next artist to bring to their label and then
personally speak with the representatives one on one after their
performance!

This is your chance to show the labels what you've got.

WILL YOU BE THE NEXT ARTIST TO BE SIGNED?

DEMO SUBMISSION AVAILABILITY IS LIMITED

so,

is this a scam or what?

In a way it is. My band got chosen to do it, but you have to buy at least 30 tickets from them at $10 a piece. You're not expected to have those people that buy tickets from you to actually come, you are just supposed to sell tickets to show you have a fan base. Anyway, the $50 to send a demo and the min. $300 ticket purchase makes this thing bullshit. After learning about having to buy the tickets from them, I quickly rated this up there with Emergenza for shitty "get your band out there!" contests. Pass on it, it's too expebsive for the common folk...unless of course you have at least $350 sitting around that you want to throw put to a test.

... apparently 160 bands are playing at the chicago one :) ... make me wonder how the 1 on 1 will be pulled off :)

I have seen a number of my friends and acqaintences get signed ...Staple, Sides of the North... and having spoken with one of the origional Zao guys the way to do it is play shows and sell CD's ...when you become succeessful enough to not need a lable they'll come to you.

Staple sold probably 1000 CD's in 2 or three months bofore they got signed
Sides of the North sold probably less...
both were together and touring regionally for about three years
now both get regular airplay in their genre

...staple was also a "concert killer" as they were more popular locally than many national acts

opening band plays
audience shows up
second band plays
staple plays
audience leaves
national act plays
