this is my version of KISS's version of the rolling stones '2000 Man'.

i tried to keep it dead-nuts true to the KISS version.

please give feedback - good or bad. thanks.

Cool

Cool! Interesting song pic. Haven't heard this in forever.
Sounds like a good mix. Not much I would say on that. maybe a hair up around 250hz on the rythem guitar.

Ah ya better just skip it then. I might get confused.
actually the one or two (?) I hear was panned right. And was the rythem. I noticed it on the last half of the song but I think it was throughout. I will have to relisten. I personaly did not mind the quitar sound at all just thought the rythem could be a "hair" thicker. The solo guitar was perfect to me.

lol. you have tired ears. :p

im listening to yours right now, and the guitars definitely are not 'thin'.

Very faithful to the KISS version. I like it, but I have a few nits.

The kick drum is not loud enough and needs a little more low end to it.

The vocals are too dry. Add some reverb and maybe a touch of delay. To make it sound more like the KISS version, you should've double tracked the main vocals. Same with the lead guitar - double tracking it would bring it out in the mix more.

Overall the mix is lacking in low end.

What did you use for the drums?

thanks for the input.

for the drums, i used......well....drums. theyre mixed dry with just a hint of compression.

as for the vocals, i tracked them exactly as you described - double-tracked with some delay and reverb. i must admit im effect-shy, so i do sometimes tend to go too light on that stuff. i can easily wet them down some.

thanks again for your critique. very good points. i appreciate it. :)

1) Well, very good drumming, dude! The toms sound great!

2) You need to bring up the double track some, 'cause I really can't hear it that well. EDIT: I'm not talking about the harmony - I'm talking about another track that mimics the main vocal line. END EDIT. And yeah, too little f/x is better than too much, but it needs more.

3) You're welcome!

:D

Hi, Greg!
I like a lot Kiss version and I think you did a very good one too. To make it even better, I suggest to put the vocal and gtr on same "room" (you choose, or more "reverb"(or delay...) on vocal or less on guitar).
And more volume on the bass drum, which really not appears good (neither low/sub low nor "kik" frequencies).

Little adjustmentes...
Good Job

Haven't heard KISS version. But this sounds really cool.

The drums sound cool. Really cool. The guitars sound great and are played very well. Very tight in timing. :)

Cool.

thanks a lot. ill be playing with some reverb tonight when i mix it again.

unfortunately i cant do much with the kick. i only have 2 inputs so i have to run the drum mics through a mixer and then to my interface. so i have no control over the individual drum volumes and individual drum EQ once its laid down. best i can do is try to bring it out with some fine-tuning of the whole drum track EQ. initially, it sounded plenty loud enough until i dropped 5 guitars and a bass on top of it. oh well, ill try to fine tune it later. thanks a lot for your input. :)

Played a bunch of KISS in my teens but this one escapes me...not familiar with the Stones version either.....

- cool guitar tone
- thumpy bass drum in intro, drums nice throughout
- vocals sit nice in the center, super clear even when its get "going"
- harmonies good
- not getting any bass but that's probably my cheapo speakers
- sounds like Ace on solo, mellow, bend-y and slow groove
- sharp ending on the guitar
- overall (IMHO) the mix is a done deal - really sounds great

:) :D :) :D

awesome. thanks a lot ido. :)

i tweaked it a little here and there, but the site that i upload to is down right now. ill post the updated version when i can.

Yeah, that's the hard way to do it and I know from personal experience! But you did very well IMO. Which makes me wonder - did you use a click track? The timing is very good. In future, you may want to consider laying down guide guitar and bass tracks before the drums so that way you can better idea of how loud the drums should be recorded. Overall a very good job.

thanks again. :)

i actually do the drums last. well, i do the vocals last, but the drums are always the last 'instrument' i record. i do everything else as precisely as possible to a click while tracking the guitars. what happened with this one is that i had started with simple L and R rhythm guitar tracks. once the drums were added, everything drum related sounded good, but then my guitars sounded weak. i EQ'd the snot out of them and the drums and bass trying to get the guitar fullness back, but to no avail. so, i simply doubled them up. i got my tone back, but lost some of the bass-drum in the mix. im still playing with it so maybe i can find it in the EQ.

Great track. Sounds just like the original as far as playing goes. I love hearing KISS covers.

I did think the guitars were a little thin. I dont know a whole lot about fixing them with eq but a boost at 250 sounds like a good idea to me :)
