20 year old NOS tune from the closet....

old tune stock from about 20 years ago maybe......

Here is one that (Mikey's) Emily was nice enough to sing for me. Not even sure how to pigeon hole this one, just give it a listen and see what you hear, what you might change or not change, etc...... you know the drill. I tried to keep this one fairly clean, fewer effects etc since the last one was pretty heavy on processing. Emily sings lead at the start and the end, and harmony in the middle. There are a few "sssssss" spots (is that the KSM44?) but overall the voc tracks came out pretty fair. (they are imported, I did not record them myself) Touched up a bit with Ozone on the final stereo wav. Keep in mind the acoustic tracks here were recorded a while back before I knew what I was going on with Sonar and input levels, different mics, etc..... but I worked with them "as is" since I dont really have enough time in the day to get my acoustic chops up to half of Max's level.

Also, I think my room is messed up, cuz it sounds ok in the room, but as soon as I take the song to some other location it sounds different to me, more bassy, etc. I need to figure out how to set these monitors so that I dont keep making bassy boomy mixes. Odd but it sounds good on the monitors, and sounds good in a "home stereo" kinda way on the old Cerwin Vegas, and both of those are in the room downstairs. Even more odd because the last tune I posted nobody said anything about boomy or bassy, and that tune was mixed on the Cerwin Vegas while my monitors were in the shop. On the computers and car players this one sounds strange. Let me know if it sounds that way to you.

argh - I'm on exile from the MP3 clinic for a while, since the power is still out at my house due to hurricane Ike, and I can't effectively listen to songs at work.

So... without listening, let me ask a few questions: Are all the tracks about 20 years old? What state/medium were they in, and how did you get them into your DAW (assuming that's what's going on)? That's cool beans - I don't know why it's more intriguing to me to hear old stuff (NOS is a good term to use) - maybe because I've got some of it in different places in the country (actually the Omaha area, for the most part) that I'd like to track down and assimilate.

Sorry, nothing that fancy. I tried all that capturing from reel to reel and importing to DAW and I had synch/timing issues and level matching issues and other issues I cant even remember now. By the time I figured all that out I coulda just re-recorded the song. So I did.

The composition is 20 years old, re-recorded using current gear, new amps, new mics, computer and Sonar. The girl singing is in West Virginia, and importing those tracks carries its own issues......For one thing, I have no control over how the voice is recorded, hence the ssssssssss issue and sometimes other issues with vocs. But even with those issues, her singing sounds soooo much better than mine!

So I figure the term "NOS" applies......"new old song"
