I AM LOOKING FOR THE BEST WAY TO GET SIGNAL TO MY COMPUTER TO RECORD.I HAVE BEEN RECORDING WITH A 20 BIT ADAT AND WOULD LIKE TO USE IT AS MY INTERFACE.AS FAR AS I CAN TELL I SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE AN OPTICAL I/O CARD TO GET 8 TRACKS IN.I HAVE LOOKED AT THE EVENT EZ8 FOR $150.MAYBE SOMEONE CAN TELL ME IF THERE IS A BETER AUDIO CARD OR IF THERE IS A BETER WAY TO DO THIS THANKS

STOP SHOUTING........

RME and MOTU make ADAT I/O cards that are excellent. I would recommend either one of them....

SHOUTING

Sorry to shout i just found out what you mean by shouting,I am a musician not a computer nerd. Thanks for your a reply to my ? is there any type of I/O you would recomend or should I still look for optical. Thanks, Chris

Going digitally via the LIghtpipe is the best way to interface - avoids unnecessary A/D conversions.......... look at either of those 2 cards.........

This is true. I know Bruce uses the Hammerfall and I use a MOTU 2408 mkII. Both with ADATs once upon a time and now Alesis HD24's. Both do a great job.
By the way Bruce, have you seen this thing yet? http://www.frontierdesign.com/

That looks cool - wonder if it's cheaper than my Z*Sys OptiPatch!?

I don't know yet but it looks like it would solve a lot of problems for me.

Thanks

It is hard to know if getting advice from a slut and a guy selling duck's is a good thing or not ? lol. Just kiding thanks for your help. By the way where can i find these card's and do you know approx how much they are $ ? Thanks Chris7.

What have you got against ducks?

The Hammerfall ran me about $850 Cdn so it's probably in the $500-600 range in US...

MOTU may be similar.
