which monitor setup would you think would be better being my main monitors? the passive event 20/20's with a hafler ta1600 or the active BX8's? both setups come out to be about the same price. one thing to think about is that the 20/20's ask for 200w per channel and the hafler amp only has 150 per.

Find some place where you can audition both of them, and get the ones that sound the most revealing to you. Try not to base it on which ones sound "best," . . . rather which ones give your ears the information you think you're going to need in order to mix well.

i've done this. and i thought that the 20/20's lack a little mid range. i was hard tell weather it was how the song was mixed. but, i could always see myself needing more mid range out them. that could be a bad thing. but, the bx8's always seem a bit harsh. taking some high out and messing with the acoustic switch hepls with this. but, the bx8's always sound really DIFFERENT from all the other monitors. anyone have any experience with these monitors?

I have a pair and they are very "toppy". I am experimenting with the settings on the back to make them a little better. I think overall they are very good, and they are powered, which simplifies cabling.

On the BX8's, read the manual, and then ignore it for a minute -

Set your Acoustic Space switch at -4 and your HF at -2. That seems to be the "universal" starting point.

Then, break 'em a bit
