Hi.

Does anyone know if I can hook up 2 M-audio AP 2496's and use both within Pro Tools M-Powered.

Thanks a lot

Tony Mead

I don't think the 24/96's can be synced via word clock, so while it might work you may have to go in and align the tracks manually.

They have to be synced via SPDIF(out from the master card to the in on the second card), and you can run up to 4 24/96's together with no problem.

Damn, I knew I should have downloaded the manual! :o

In my defense, I got mine used. ;)

Thanks guys, There is a Knowledge base article on the M-Audio website that I found that confirm this (thanks carter).

Cheers

Why must people pretend to know what they are talking about and look like idiots?

Would it have hurt to check M-Audio's website first?

All Delta series support kernel sync via their drivers:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=8e8f75bd04d1e9a27d16e263a00b6b1d

The Operating Systems Windows 2000/XP support "KernelSync" and do not necessarily need the external connection using S/PDIF. For this type of Operation, all cards have to be set to "Multiple Card Sync".

Usually something like this would not bother me, but today I'll make an exception: Get stuffed!

Well if you knew what you were talking about you would know that kernel sync is mainly for the delta 44 dumbass and how do you know he is running windows? go blow yourself! I should hit you with bad rep for that.... but I wont.. read on..........

Delta Series, Multi-card setup

Q: How do I configure Multiple Delta Series cards to run together?
A:
- You will need a 75 Ohm S/PDIF COAX Digital Audio cable for the external synchronization.
- Define one of the Delta Series cards as the card running in Word Clock Master mode. Best would be to choose the card that doesn't share an Interrupt (IRQ) with any other device (check the Device Manager for IRQ sharing). When using a Macintosh Computer, choose the card in the lowest PCI slot as the Word Clock Master. - Set the selected Word Clock Master card to "Internal Xtal" in the Delta Control Panel's "Hardware Settings" tab. In the Patchbay/Router tab, set this card to "Monitor Mixer" for the "HW Out S/PDIF". Activate "Single and in sync".
- Connect the digital output of this card with the digital input of the second Delta Series card. Set the Master Clock of the second card to S/PDIF ("Hardware Settings" in the Delta Control Panel). Activate "Single and in sync" for this card as well.
- If you are using three Delta Series cards, the second card should also be set to "HW Out S/PDIF" for the "Monitor Mixer" in the Patchbay/Router tab.
Make the same settings for Delta card #3 and # 4.

If Delta Audiophile 192 card is part of your setup, make sure to use this card as the last device in the synchronization chain.

The Operating Systems Windows 2000/XP support "KernelSync" and do not necessarily need the external connection using S/PDIF. Delta 44 can only be stacked in these Operating Systems, since this card does not have a S/PDIF connector. For this type of Operation, all cards have to be set to "Multiple Card Sync".

All Delta series cards SUPPORT Kernel sync. In fact all Delta series cards use the SAME EXACT driver.

The Delta 44 NEEDS to be synced that way only because it doesn't have SPDIF. Nowhere does it say you cannot sync the remaining Delta series cards with KernelSync.

Unfortunately, I'm told PT M-powered will only support one card, although the standard M-audio Delta driver does support more than one card, M-p uses a different driver interface to the card of Digidesigns own, and this limits you to accessing only one card at a time.
