hey yall, i'm looking at getting a new mic in the studio in the near feature...
??? is though which one of these mics would you get and why?
i was looking at the new TapeOp that just came and i ran across a mic called the "Pacific Pro Audio LD-2ube"
the mic seems to good to be true...and at $299 it really seems to good to be true...but how bad can it actually sound...???
should i order of of them or the new "studio projects TB1"

2 links for the ld-2ube
Link one-spec sheet
another link

both mics are $299...

Personally, I'd go with Alan's mic because he has proven to produce quality gear. Or I'd go with the Marshall V77.

Here's what Harvey Gerst had to say about the V77:

Marshall MXL-V77 $600 This is the top of the line Marshall tube mic, and it's very similar to the TLM-103 in sound (with a little more proximity effect). It's a very nice tube mic, especially at the price. There was a 1 dB difference in the level between the two V77s we tested, but the sound was identical.

8th Street has the V77 on sale with a tripod stand and cable for $309.95

who's alan??? ;) ;)
as for the v77, i care less for mxl mics, plus i have a se5000... i'm gonna add another mic though...one of these 2... or if my boy gets me another deal on a solid tube

The MXL's blow away the SE Electronics mics. I have a SE5000 and it's okay for some stuff but the MXL2003 is much more smooth.

C9,Alan is Alan Hyatt who is the man behind Studio Projects. He was a regular poster in this forum until a few people decided to save us from ourselves and went on a which hunt and drove him away.To say that it was a shame would be an understatement.Oh well, old news.

Anyhoo, aside from the obvious quality and value of the Studio Projects mics,a good reson to purchase one is Alan himself. He stands behind his products like absolutely no one I have ever seen in the business world.I have heard of him replacing or fixing mics for free that were broken by user error like dropping them.Imagine if you bought a new car and then you drove it into a tree.Try taking the car back to the dealer to get it fixed or replaced for free after you've fucked up and they will be laughing at you for years to come.I use autos as an example as I used to be a car salesman back in the day and I know that there are legendary stories of customer stupidity that are shared over and over,if you drove your car into a tree and then wanted free satisfaction, you would join the ranks of people who amuse salesman for all time to come.

Besides the fact that Alan is always accessable via e-mail there is the fact that they are great mics.I recently bought the TB-1 and I almost cream when I hear it.I don't have access to alot of mics,my other vocal mics are a total piece of shit Marshall 2001p and an Audio Technica 3525(which I like a lot).I won't even compare the TB-1 to the Marshall as I haven't used the piece of shit Marshall in a long time. There aren't many mics that I've heard that I like less than the 2001p.The Audio Technica on the other hand,I like quite a bit both on vocals and acoustic guitar. The 3525 is pretty flat and neutral sounding, any real excitement has to come from the source.I really like this mic, especially after the shrillness of the Marshall.

The TB-1 absolutely blows the 3525 out of the water which is pretty impressive seeing that I would recommend the 3525 in a heart beat.I really like the AT but the TB-1 while still sounding fairly neutral has an in your face quality while maintaining a silky smoothness that knocks me out.Tracks recorded with it are right there in front of you without any sibulance or harshness, everything is smooooooth and sweeeeeeeet! :D

Alan turned me into a newt!....

I got better.

Burn him anyway!

LOL...i went to my partners studio and he uses a few u87ai's with dbx and avalon pres...i told him my se5000 sounded much better than my tlm-103 and he wanted to see how it sounded.... we plugged it up in the vocal booth with a dbx 378 I think it was...he said it was very close to his u87ai...
after listening the the recordings in the studio we couldn't tell which recording was which....once we put in my truck we heard a slight difference... the se500 was lacking some mid and low end compaired to the u87ai...i have Focal utopia speakers so we heard everything clearly....i know a few ppl with mxl2003's and v69's sorry but my se5000 sound 10x better... and my tlm103 sounds much better too

i'm always willing to try something new thats why i though that other mic would be nice to try out... but i'll go with the tb-1.
though that other mic does say in the book

"try on for 30 days,if you are anything less than satisfied, send it back for a full refund"
so i might get it. if it doesn't even stand up to out akg solid tube i'll send it back and get my the tb-1 or something even better
