I have a XP pro OS with plenty of ram and a fast processor that currently has a SB audigy pro platinum card that my kids all like for games. I want to get a better card (e.g. M-Audio something) for recording, but would face a mutiny if we lost the 6.1 output on the games. Is it possible to have both cards in the machine but use the M-Audio only for recording? I asked a local guy at a store and he said it was imnpossible, but I would appreciate feedback from anyone here.

It is quite possible...well for me anyways, I use my onboard soundcard and Delta 1010lt for recording.

I ran an Echo Mia and and SBLive in 2 computers for a couple of years.

Sure, you can do it...

The above post is nearly identical to my situation (minus the kids). The thread I found this in did not say anything more than YES IT IS POSSIBLE.

I would like to know HOW it is possible and what to look out for in the way of conflicts that anyone may have had doing this?

I am not a newbie when it comes to pc's - I built the last 4 I've owned - but as everything is working perfectly in it's current form, with the exception that I would rather use an M-Audio card for in/out recording, I do not want to screw it up and have to start again. (nightmare scenario - 180GB main drive + 80GB slave - do not want to go there.)

So, as I am a newbie with home studio stuff - can someone please give me the full story on 2 cards (the two mentioned) in one machine?

Thanks in advance....

ive been using two soundcards, one for recording and one for everything else
just check your software...there must be an option somewhere to choose either one of the soundcards available
