2 original rockabilly tunes

The both sound f'in awesome to me! The bass playing the low G on Oh Yeah sounds a bit too loud too me, compared to the rest of the bass notes. Other than that, they both sound great.

I'm no expert though so I'll leave that to the others.

Great sound though. Really enjoyed the tracks ;)
 
Thanks - maybe it is a little bass heavy, I could try to lower it down around 60-80 Hz :)

great job overall. I am not an expert but felt the vocals are being a bit hidden in some sections. That being said, a good balance for the most part. Good job! David
 
Too clean man. Yeah it's a good recording. Sounds mostly authentic, but the vocals are too out front and on top of the mix for me. It's good, but vintage 50's? Not really. Vocals are too hot.

One thing you could try is to bus everything to a big reverb and mix it back in to help give it a band-in-a-room sound.

What he said.

Except instead of reverb you might think slapback delay. Especially the guitar. Give a listen to Rock this town, by Stray Cats. That's the sound you want.

VERY strong tunes, though. Really enjoyed 'em both.

Man, there are some talented songwriters on this forum.
 
Agreed, it is an excellent recording - could easily hear seperate vocals, bass, drums & guitar, but as for a `50's sound, no. Vocals from that era were just a touch out front, yet, blended with the overall sound. Recording were done in smallish rooms, with old style mic's and not the tech heavy stuff from nowadays. Early Brian Setzer sound is spot on! That will give you a "sound" to attempt to duplicate...
 
Good tunes, but I have to agree with Greg-L, too clean. If you want to understand that rock a billy sound, listen to the King of Rock a Billy, Carl Perkins. Let me say again, I did enjoy the tunes.
 
Thank You all! The problem was that the band couldn't decide if they wanted a newer or older sound so it ended up this way. I wanted to put some more tape delay during the mix and blend the vocal more in the mix, but they wanted this type of sound. Tomorrow I'm recording another rockabilly bend that wants oldfashioned sound and approach, so we'll see how will that turn up. We will only use 2 or 3 mics and go directly to one track - mono :)

It is a basic aproach, but it's not an easy sound to catch, although I have some pretty old equipement :)

The equipment is only a little piece of the puzzle. They have to sound like a rockabilly band to sound like a rockabilly band. Know what I mean?
