2 channel pre used, budget 300-400

I'm looking for a 2 channel pre that will be used mainly for drum overheads and mic'ing guitars (mostly acoustic). 300-400 budget used. I'm picking up either the groove tubes "the brick" or the Joe Meek VC1 Q so for the 2 channel I was considering solid state pre 's so I can have both solid state and tube in the pre arsenal. but I will buy more real tube circuits if someone has a really good one to suggest.

I searched the forums for a 2 channel pre but didnt come up with anything in my price range really other than the presonus mp20. Any ideas?

FMR Really Nice Preamp (RNP) - $475 new, prolly around $400 used.

Also the Rane DMS22. It's basically a pair of Rane MS-1b preamps, with eq and a stereo summing bus. Nice unit. Recently discontinued, but I got one used for $150 or so several years ago.

The Presonus MP20 is OK, and gets much better with the Jensen tranny swap and the Burr Brown op amp upgrade.

HHB/TL Audio has stuff used in that price range that sounds pretty good.

Couple of Rane ms-1b's and a used Studio Projects VTB-1 could be had for under $400. I own a ms-1b and think it's a great piece for the money. Doesn't make you drop your jaw, but it's very reliable in terms of producing an uncolored, clear sound.

Having owned an RNP, I think it's a good buy if found at a used price.

I will sell you my Rane MS1b cheap...I've had it for a while but never use it at all...I started building 312 clones so the poor Rane got beaten out ...pm me if any of you are interested...I will send it to you to "try before you buy"...if you don't like it all you are out is the shipping....

Have you looked at the EH 12AY7's the are about $190 each. I have 5 and love them. Do a search for it here. There is a ton of feedback on these. Walter

The RNP with XLR inputs looks really tempting but its topping out over my budget because I can't find them anywhere used. Now It's just between the EH 12AY7 and the Rane unit. I don't see either of those on ebay used. The Rane is a 2 channel right, and the EH just one? If they are both single channel I could grab one of each. I think I just might take you up on that Rane Solinski. PM me if you are still looking to get rid of it and give me your price.
