i want to record 2 bass tracks, one direct and one a miced amp. i have a mackie pa 808M mixer and a yamaha md8. can i mix the two signals on the mackie and then use the line out to one track on the md8 and still get good sound quality, or do you think this will reduce the quality of the signal?

I'm not sure what exactly you mean.
If you are going to blend both mic and direct bass to one track it should work fine. In fact that is how many pros record...well they would keep both seperate and blend them in the mix but the concept is the same.
Just watch out for phase issues. If it sounds boxy while monitoring the sound try to flip one channel on the mixer 180 degrees if you have phase switches, try both channels to see if the mid range is getting swallowed.
