i just purchased a drive with an 8 mb cache and i have one in my pc with a 2 mb cache-both 7200 rpm. which one should i run my os and recording apps. on and which one is better suited for recording audio on. does the larger cache favor the audio only drive?
thanks all,

You can use any of them, better use your 8mb cache for your recording purpose and keep all your applications in the other, you may get a trouble free recording if you dont mix all the applications with your recording softwares. Just to avoid some problems like the ones you see in the other threads with webcams and cakewalk drivers...etc

Use it for Audio

If you are like me and have a dedicated audio drive ,I would use the 8 meg drive for that. You will actually see a higher track count with lower cpu usage because the audio will stream smoother particularly if you are recording higher bit rate files.

Ditto. If the purpose of the machine is recording I'd used the 8MB drive for just the music data. That's the eaiest thing to do also. If you use the PC for lots of other stuff, you could Ghost your current setup to the new drive and use the 2 mb drive as a spare or backup... Then you'd get the speed advantage for everything not just music tracks.

thanks

thanks guys,
i installed the 8mb cache drive and i'm using it for audio only with a 40 gig partition. worked out great. i can definitely notice an increase in performance.
