hey.. just created an acount for this website today and this is my first recording on my new recording set up.. im very new to this and it does not sound to flash so i was hopeing to get some tips if any one has any.. i think i had my levils up to loud when i was recording especialy the vocals and it makes some crackiling sounds.. also im not very good at singing probably ive only been in 80s style punk bands before trying so this and that dosent involve much singing ability.. going to keep trying to re record it untill it sounds decent enough.. i think this is the link to the recording.. http://www.box.net/shared/9o1e707i0n .. let me know if it doesnt work, ive never used the site before and was a bit confused, thanks - liam

hey guys, thanks for the feed back.. ive been experimenting with recording drums but im still having a lot of problems mostly with the over head sounds and the overall sound is a bit messy.. but ill just keep practicing.. also, i was wondering.. to reply to your comments do i just press the quick reply to this message button and then type a message in the quick reply box or do i press on the post reply button underneath the last comment that got made.. im not so internet savy - thanks

I think you should turn the mic down a little it starts clipping on my little speakers. The singing gets horrible at some parts. It's cool if it's supposed to be like that, but I can hear in my head that you could do better if you took some singing lessons LOL :laughings:

hey man, yeah i agree with me needing to turn down my mic levils and also i started singing lessons last week! so your spot on

The whole mix has been pushed into clipping territory. What are you using to master/limit this mix? You might want to back off a bit on that. You're a good songwriter and you play a decent guitar. With time and practice your voice will get stronger so just keep at it....:D:D:D:D

hey, thanks for the kind words.. im really very new at trying to record and i havent mastered it because i havent really figured out how to do it.. infact im not 100% what it is at the moment.. and im also not really sure what limiting is.. but i am aware that i had my mic levils up too loud because now that ive played it back my levils peak heaps on the vocals and a few times on the guitar.. i would like to do a course to the basics of recording but i work too much and have just been trying to find out everything on the internet but often it just leaves me confused

Good job on your first effort. The levels are way too hot. You should aim for levels of around -18 dbfs on your meters when you record. If you overshoot, just put a trim plug as your first insert when you mix. This was THE most important lesson I had to learn to get mixes to sound right. Don't listen to all the B.S. floating around about using all the bits in your DAW. There is plenty of headroom to mix at reasonable levels, then bring it up in mastering.

hey man, i found those tips very helpfull.. thanks for that
