And I made it thru. Broke a B-string on the first song. I switched to my backup bass, but I brought the one I use for Country and Blues and it felt a little weird. Fucked up a couple of times, but not badly.(I think). All in all, didn't go too badly. I'm tired and gotta shit. Ciao!

how the crap did you manage to break your b string? Did you decide to use it as a strap or something? :p

congrats on a smooth show!

I have no idea. Wasn't really playing very hard. But I knew something fucked-up was going to happen. Kinda glad it happened to me; I was prepared. 2nd bass was even tuned up. Which is rare.

Baptism of fire & you survived.
I've broken a couple of A strings on my bass over time - mainly in a band that had NO internal sound/volume balance so playing hard was one of the ways of cutting through.
You're now proved your back up is just that.
Confidence now!

Man, good going!
I didn't have a backup to my first gig, luckily my strings survived. Everyone fucks up a little on a gig, only one that noticed is prolly you, defenetly none of the audience. :D

Did it feel like it was over pretty much the second it started to you??..
Only thing I remember of my first gig is that it was over in a flash!!...a 45min set..

Isn't it obvious?

It's God's way of telling you you don't need no stinkin' 5-string!

He made 'em with 4 for a reason.

It ain't natural, man.

:D

Congrats on the smooth gig.

I never broke a string before, except for an acoustic guitar string. This is an early sign I have to play a little harder.

It did flash by pretty quickly. Which seemed odd. I remembered being on stage seemed like it lasted forever in my earlier days. Thanks to all for the kind words. Gonna do some work on the Lightwave to make closer in feel to the Conklin. Lower the action a bit and fine tune the optics.
The 5th string came in the New Testament. :D

I love my 5-string, and won't go back to a 4... God made 5-string basses because clearly we needed one more string. Then he went and made this:

So either the devil snuck in there, or God was drunk. 9 strings? My God.

Anyway, the only time I broke a bass string was the A-string, and like most, it was during a loud section that required a lot more forceful playing to cut through... damn thing snapped at the bridge where I was playin pretty hard, and the broken metal end sticking out of the bridge went right into the palm of my hand!

Blood got on the bass, but I was able to clean it off :)

The reason for 7+ strings is to keep guitarists on their toes. :D

That's brutal!

Apparently I can't link images into this post. Oh well, its still a link.

very nice :)

I'll have to check it out when I get home tonight though, as my business has blocked such entertaining websites as youtube, and for good reason!

I once broke 2 guitar strings during the same song-I just had to nod to the rhythm player to take over & finish the lead at that point.
It was a doomed night though-I also smoked my amp later-a light stand fell over and broke several keys on the keyboardist's piano-and a power amp broke down too-WHAT A DISASTEROUS GIG..........

We all lived through it anyway  !!

Damn! I've never heard of breaking a bass B string. Is that why they don't recommend using a razor blade as a pick?

:D :D :D :D

If the recorded sound represents accurately the sound on site, I'm quite sure no one could possibly spot a few fuckups.
:D
