Yup..too a point

Dithering is nothing new to me and Im aware of the Apogee UV-22 methods as well as SBM, but these are still 16 bit/44.1 Red Book CD's where a compromise has been made to the actual quality of the music. Some Mastering Engineers can hear a dithered cd. My thought were non-dithered, true 24 bit CD's. If dithered fixed it, we still would not be seeing things like the Masterlink with Alesis proprietary CD24 or DVD-A formats being standardized.

Pump up the volume

Yeah, I think it's happening as we speak with DVD as well. I can buy a DVD player here for about $70 - it'll play DVDs, VCDs, and CDs. (Atomic, I think those expensive players you mentioned must be DVD burners.) The bitch of it's the cost of hardware and software for producing DVDs - still too rich for my pocket.

With people playing all sorts of media on the same player, presumably we'll start to hear the difference between 16-bit and 24-bit stuff as well. Taste tells.
