so if i have a 16 bit soundcard, and a 16 bit digital hard disc recorder, and cd's only burn at 16 bit...why is everybody telling me to mix down and edit to 24 bit soundforge instead of 16 bit soundforge? is the difference worth the money for a new soundcard, and soundforge 5?

thanks.

If you would use the Search function, you could find a whole lot of info on this highly discussed topic.

However, my short answer is that if you are recording in 16 bit to begin with because your card only supports that, then yes you can just stay in 16 bit. 24 bit offers advantages both in sound quality and in editing, but ideally you want to create the file as 24 bit and keep it that way until it is finished and ready to burn to CDR.
