16/24bit

is this gonna screw things up if i record half of the tracks for a song at 16 bit and the other half at 24?

im using n-track if it makes a difference

its ok to mix bit depths, you just cant mix samplingrates.....Ive used some 16 bit loops and recorded 24 bit tracks in the same project with no problemos......

ok well i did some mixes today which involved 24 bit and 16 bit tracks. It won't play in winamp on my computer, and i also can't burn it onto cd.

Btw i just got a new soundcard and its my first mixes w/ it. Everytime i play in winamp or Nero it gives me a message file not recognized (nero) or an error message.

bounce everything down to 16 bit 44.1. i'm not sure about winamps capabilities, but i know it can play that, and since 16/44.1 is cd audio you'll be able to burn it to cd. my guess is you bounced them at 24 bit and maybe 48khz. a cd can't handle these numbers and i don't think winamp can either.

N-track doesn't care. (good program)

You will have to bounce everything down to 16bit/44.1kHz before burning to CD, though. That's the official Red Book Audio CD standard.
