Isn't Byj Klingon for masochism or something?

From first impression, the rhythm section is pretty dark and a bit muddy, especially the snare drum. The vocals are clear though.

I appreciate the fast tempo though.

My first bit of advice would be to brighten up the snare. That's the low-hanging fruit here.

Vocals have a neat lo-fi sound. They work well for a song like this. Cool song. Vocals are noticeably dryer than the rest of the tracks.

The drum samples are killing the mix though. The kick and snare don't sound nice at all - very muffled and boxy.

Distorted guitars are a little washed out, fizzy and indistinct. I think maybe a little too much gain was used. Not enough presence either.

Bass sounded OK.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments so far. Just wanted to point out the drums are not samples! I used two mics, a small diaphragm condenser overhead and a dynamic between the kick and floor tom. Yeah mixing.

Hey,
I enjoyed listening to this.
I'd agree with those who came before though. I think it could do with some brightening up in general.

See, the vocals sound just right to me, so maybe the overall sound is what you were going for?

If not, it wouldn't take a whole lot to clean it up a touch.
Great work. Performance seems tight. :)

I too thought the vocals and the way they were processed were pretty cool.

I also agree with the comments about the overall tonal darkness. It seemed very pronounced to me after listening to other tracks earlier, but as the song settled in, I found it to be less of an issue, meaning this could actually be exactly as you want it to be. I think the drums really could be brighter though, especially the snare.

Thanks again everyone. I am overall pleased with how everything sounds. Problem could be that I haven't changed the skins on my snare and kick drums. I bought the kit from a friend because it was sitting in someone's barn for at least 5 years or more. I replaced all the cymbals and most of the skins, all that's left is snare and bass. Not sure why I waited to do those two last :P

Either way thanks again, all.

I don't for a second believe those are real drums. Not that it matters, but I don't believe it. The timing and dynamics are robotic and if they're real you've managed to make them sound like a Casio keyboard demo kit. But maybe that's the sound you want and that's cool. I actually like the darkness and unintelligible fuzz of the guitar. They meek and timid sounding vocals works for me contrasting with the raucous mess of the rest of the mix. Very 90's-like. Pretty good.

LOL are you calling me a liar?

unless you're only referring to the first four seconds of the song... yeah those drums are fake.

Thanks for listening either way, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
