Okay, basicaly I'm looking at in the near future getting myself an 8 by 8 interface... and these 3 points are basicaly all I care about in order
Price
Sound quality (of the converters)
Stability (that it will run well with my system)
Upgradability (does it have adat in/outs?)
features (eg mic pre's)

At the moment I have..
Tannoy reveals
an allen and heath system 8 24 channel desk
a small (but growing assortment of mics)
and nuendo (bought it second hand cheaply of a friend who had an interest in video editing then gave it up)
An Athlon 2600+ with a gig of ram... firewireand a :o hoontech dsp 24 value

so as you can see from that Mic pre's on the interface are kinda unneccesary (as I have 24 allen and heaths)

yeah I was quite interested in the 1820m... but two things scared me off
a)the stability issues
b)the fact it's not owned by creative... and I realy don't trust that company

oh... and also I heard the mic pre's arent bypassable which would be highly uncool

I haven't had any problems with there drivers they are pretty stable on my machine. (however i run the 1212M but I believe they are the same drivers)

The card IS made by Creative, I'm not sure as to why you don't trust them they make great cards & all of the cards no matter who its from usually have some type of issues.

Sure you can bypass the Mic pres don't plug into them and go through the line in :D

I've just heard alot of tragic stories of people trying to work with creatives customer support and basicaly getting told that they won't be helped

I'm a MOTU guy. A 2408 mkII. Eight analog ins and outs plus 24 ADAT ins and outs, 24 TDIF ins and outs plus S/PDIF ins and outs and Word Clock in/out. It plays nice with my system (two different computers).
