Dear folks,

I've been reading around several recording forums looking at some threads, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for yet. So here I go:

I'm in a band in which we mix spoken word with music, and I'm in need for a (cheap/good) mic. I know I don't want a usb-mic, so that's off the hook. I've noticed most (all?) mics have xlr-output, so I would need an interface with that.

Technical gear info: It must be compatible with an 'm-audio fast track ultra' and garage band. It would be nice if I can work with it on a Windows pc as well, but it's not especially necessary.

Hope someone can give me some advice! Everything is much appreciated!

Google up the Zoom H4n ..... That should be good for what you wanna do.

An XLR is standard for microphones. There are a lot that don't have XLR plugs, but those are the exception, and they usually have built-in adapters.

If you already have the Fast Track, you've got an interface. Any standard mic will work. Ido's SM-58 suggestion is good.

Mics don't care what operating system you use. That's up to the software that comes with your interface. (The Fast Track should be fine for that.)
