1 mic or 2?

I forgot to add this to my last post, so here we go with another question...

When recording with a mic, is there a factor that determines how many mics you use? In this case, I will be recording only a voice, so should I have 1 or 2 mics?

Some have said 2 mics will give me a stereo sound, while others have said that simply using 1 mic and using the panning on my software will give me the same effect.

What are your opinions on this?

one mic on vocals works for me. Just get a good mic. you can copy the vocal to another track and use different eq and effects on each vocal track and get a stereo effect. you can have the vocalist sing it twice.

from your last post i see you are doing spoken word...for this you will want 1 mic and you wont want to do it in stereo....
