1-bit d/a converters

I just looked at the manual of my (fairly crappy) stereo. I noticed for the first time that it said it has a "1-bit D/A Converter".
1 bit? what the f**k? is this normal? i mean... its bad but its not that bad...

it's one half of a 2-bit set of stero convertors
