$1,86 vs. $1,925 microphone test (mp3)

As mentioned in the Behri thread, did some experiments a while ago modifying a cheap Panasonic WM-61 capsule. Up against it is a DPA4006, so both are omni and electret.

Uploading these made me aware of the possible limitations of the mp3 format... Or what do you guys think?

To be honest, I liked the Panasonic better. It had more detail and some "sparkle" the DPA lacked, at least on this instrument. The DPA seemed a little dull by comparison.

On these little laptop speakers it sounds pretty much the same - which can't be a bad thing! I'll check it out on the proper speakers later

Any details on the mic build?

Thanks Corndog, it's just me trying to make various useful sounds for a mike test... Not used to holding a pick, but thought this test needed one.

It's the capsule + a handful of parts to make it run on phantom power. True to my personal style, I used a wooden body for it... Was trying to make the capsule less noisy and able to deal with louder sources such as (kick) drums. Have been messing with these for almost ten years now, maybe I'm finally getting somewhere?
