Comrades-

I am getting my Otari MX5050 tomorrow. 1/2'' eight track. I bought for $350, recently spruced up and working spiffy, from a good friend of mine.

This will be my first real tape machine. I am scared, kinda. I have been raised digital.

can someone gimme a good online source for tape?

Seems like the lowest price on the web is around $35.00 each, unless you buy a case of 7, which brings it down to $28.00 or so. Here are a few links I’ve found in my cyber travels.

And be aware, I see people bidding for old used "one-pass" 456 tape on eBay and paying more than what they could buy it new. "Don't be that kid"

Well, unless you want 3M 226, which is preferred by Tom Sholtz of Boston, among others, or Emtec 911. you can still find Emtec new, but 3M/Scotch 226 is all eBay now. Whatever it is make sure it's sealed in plastic.

Man this guy from Guitar Center just told me that they no longer carry 456 in the 1/2" format, but he could order it for me, so
out of curiousity I asked him how much it is per reel and he tells me it went up...up to $125.00!! LOL

Naturally I said "Get the F out of here!"
