i was having this "fight" with a very good friend of mine about recording two guitars of a band with the same, slightly different or totally opposite distortions.

in my opinion they gotta sound different, but how do you like them?

My answer is simple: I like them however sounds good. It completely depends on the song. I've doubled guitars using the exact same tone, same amp w/ different guitars, same guitar different amp, everything different, electric and acoustic, distroted and clean.

Experiment.
