Do you still have any 8v 100ma .16" x .8" axial bulbs for sale? I need to replace the VU lamps in my M312 and you seem to be the only source for these things.

    Tascam 244 voltage questions

I just purchased a 244 that needs new rubber. When I took the back off, I noticed the sticker on the bottom says 240v 50hz, however there is a (user installed) two prong American plug on the power cord. The power transformer is this one: TASCAM-244 Power Transformer. Part No: 7635C001H TEAC...

    Gummy Portastudio knobs

I have many Tascam Portastudios with rubberized knobs- the 488 and 688 for example. They seem to have degraded over the years and got sticky and gummy, just like a belt or a pinch roller. Is there anything I can use to harden these back up a bit? Would alcohol work? I’ve tried running a few down...

    Tascam 424 buttons unresponsive

I can’t imagine it’s an issue with the board that has the buttons on it- there’s nothing on that board but buttons and maybe LEDs, I don’t remember offhand. It’s gotta be either an issue with the ribbon cable or some component between there and the transport. Maybe a blown cap that my eyes...

    Tascam 424 buttons unresponsive

That post talks about the motor wearing out, but my motor is fine. My transport buttons do nothing... the heads don’t try to engage, the reels don’t twitch, nothing. Did I miss something on that page?

    Tascam 424 buttons unresponsive

I just got a very very cheap 424! It didn’t power up at first, but after fixing the broken connections at the power jack it is doing fine. The capstan is spinning, but none of the transport buttons seem to do anything at all. It doesn’t even try, it’s like the board with the buttons is...

    Tascam 388 head going?

I tried an old unused reel of Scotch 212 that I had sitting around and it doesn’t have the issue. I normally use RMGI LPR35. They changed their packaging right around the time this issue popped up, so I’m guessing the tape changed too and is ever so microscopically wider. Crap!

    Tascam 388 head going?

Ah crap. I just took a video of my heads and then felt the one on the right with my fingernail and there’s certainly a lip at the top. Time for a relap I guess...? Anyone know a tech in the Midwest who works on these? I live in Des Moines, IA, so Omaha, Minneapolis, Kansas City are all very...

    Tascam 388 head going?

Help please. I’m having dropout issues on channel 1 as well. They started happening several years ago and at the time I did a thorough cleaning of everything in the tape path and it seemed to help some, but not completely. I had to set it aside for a couple years and recently got all my gear...

SERVICE MANUAL needed for TASCAM 488 MKII

I’m curious about how this turned out. I’m also looking for a service manual for mine, and I can’t record to tracks 2 or 6; it behaves just like the one mentioned here.

    HELP! Tascam 388 dropout emergency!

After a thorough cleaning it seems to be much better, but track 1 is still a little wobbly. I feel like I probably need it to be calibrated or something; something must've happened or changed that I somehow didn't know about. Can anyone suggest a good tech in the Des Moines, IA, Omaha, NE, or...

    HELP! Tascam 388 dropout emergency!

And part three... I used some rubber cleaner on the rubber bits and it seemed to help immensely. There's still a little shakiness on track 1 but nowhere near what it was, and the tape doesn't seem to be rocking as obviously as it was a few minutes ago. Gonna give that rubber a bit more of a...

    HELP! Tascam 388 dropout emergency!

Upon taking a real close look at the tape running across the heads, it does seem to have a little side to side (or up and down, i spose) wiggle to it in sort of a rhythmic way that I wonder about. Could that be causing it? It's extremely minor and i had to get way in there to notice it...

    HELP! Tascam 388 dropout emergency!

Oh no! I've used my Tascam 388 religiously for years and now, out of nowhere, the night before my band is recording, Track 1 (and occasionally tracks 2 and 3 earlier, but now just track 1...) drops out here and there. I was recording some drum tracks, just trying to get sounds, and noticed that...

Audio Technica AT-RMX64 (cassette 4-track) repair story

I bet that 1000-grit guy was me! I believe these were something like $3k when they were introduced. I haven't worked on mine in quite a while, until I recently decided I needed to finish up this project. My playback is still really warbly but it all seems to work for the most part. Any ideas on...

Audio Technica AT-RMX64 4-track acting up

After months of not working on it, I decided I needed to get back at it and finish this thing up. It will play tapes at mostly the right speed, but they are super warbly. Is this still a lube-the-motor issue? If thats the case, what part of the motor am I trying to lubricate?

Tascam 238, Toft ATB16, and buzzing.

I don't think it's a grounding issue. I borrowed a fairly high dollar power conditioner from work, plugged the 238 and my 488 into it. I took the 238 out of my patch bay entirely, by plugging it straight into the unbalanced line-ins on the 488. Still buzzing. I feel like this is something...

Tascam 238, Toft ATB16, and buzzing.

Alright. Google helped me: http://thesnowfields.com/manuals/Tascam_238_syncaset_Service_Manual.pdf I didn't see any parts list or anything quite that obvious. Anyone able to shed some light on what needs to happen?

Tascam 238, Toft ATB16, and buzzing.

Anyone? Service manual in PDF? I'll buy one off ebay if I have to, but it seems like one of the friendly folks in the cassette community could possibly help me out.. :)

Tascam 238, Toft ATB16, and buzzing.

They're only 6ft i believe. Filter Caps! Great. If that's it, I'm not afraid to solder new ones in if someone can provide me with a service manual or tell me what I'm looking for. My soldering skills are solid, but I'm no electrical engineer.
