I tried an old unused reel of Scotch 212 that I had sitting around and it doesn’t have the issue. I normally use RMGI LPR35. They changed their packaging right around the time this issue popped up, so I’m guessing the tape changed too and is ever so microscopically wider. Crap!

After months of not working on it, I decided I needed to get back at it and finish this thing up. It will play tapes at mostly the right speed, but they are super warbly. Is this still a lube-the-motor issue? If thats the case, what part of the motor am I trying to lubricate?

I don't think it's a grounding issue. I borrowed a fairly high dollar power conditioner from work, plugged the 238 and my 488 into it. I took the 238 out of my patch bay entirely, by plugging it straight into the unbalanced line-ins on the 488. Still buzzing. I feel like this is something...

They're only 6ft i believe. Filter Caps! Great. If that's it, I'm not afraid to solder new ones in if someone can provide me with a service manual or tell me what I'm looking for. My soldering skills are solid, but I'm no electrical engineer.
