    Some Halloween Fun

Every halloween I like to set some speakers up by the door and scare trick-or-treaters with scary sci-fi sounds. This year a friend encouraged me to make a downloadable track and that is exactly what I did. It's available here http://virtualanalogdreams.bandcamp.com/. It's free to stream...

    Spike at 33.8 kHz

Fair enough. Heaven forbid the bongo sound is compromised! But I do use the other channel on the same preamp for vocals so I just want to make sure there isn't a larger problem.

    Spike at 33.8 kHz

Thanks mshilarious for your response. I'm recording at 96kHz right but I will indeed be converting it to 44.1kHz when I'm finished. If that takes care of it I'm set. Thanks again

    Spike at 33.8 kHz

Thanks for your response Yammie072. I'm just going to get on with recording and stop worrying about it. Especially since it's out of our hearing range anyway. Do you even think it's worth sticking a high cut on there?

    Spike at 33.8 kHz

Hi there I was doing some recording at home the other day when I noticed something I'd never seen before. I was recording bongo drums through an SM58 without the screen on it. The signal path was SM58 -- FMR Audio Really Nice Preamp -- M-Audio Delta 1010 -- into Ableton Live 8.2. I noticed a...

My sister's cute little dance pop jingle

This is my first post on this forum. So please go easy on me. My sisters wrote this song during the summer for a little online contest. When they were done I spent a couple hours trying tidy it up. It sounded dark and muddy and I tried to brighten it up...

how does everyone pay for there studio?

To keep things within reason I work in the box, buy used gear, and know when enough is enough.

Windows 7 64-bit - any lower-cost audio interfaces known to work well?

I just picked up and M-Audio Delta 1010 used and it works great in Windows 7 64-bit. The drivers are still technically in the beta stages but it's been super stable so far and it's way more powerful than the E-MU 0404 I had prior to buying it.

Rate amp modellers for home recording

Mic'ed amps sound great, but I don't have the time to bother with them. I don't have the CPU to run everything through VST amp sims either. That's where my RP350 comes in. It's easy to use and it's a lot of fun. Keep your presets simple: just an amp sim, just some distortion etc. Don't try...

Advise Please: PCI vs PCIe and performance

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. I guess I will take some time and rethink my plans. I don't plan recording more than 2 or 3 tracks at a time so it doesn't really matter. I may just upgrade for the digital audio converters.

Advise Please: PCI vs PCIe and performance

Hello everyone, I currently own a EMU 0404 PCI soundcard. I'm considering upgrading to the PCI Express version of the same card or perhaps the PCI Express version of the 1212. My question is will there be a performance increase for VST plugins. I use several very CPU unfriendly VST...

    E-MU PK-6 deal!!

I'm posting to first brag and then quickly do a 180 and ask for advice. The other day I picked up a E-MU PK-6 for $50. You can hardly pick up a used controller for that much. I brought it home triumphantly and I've been having tons of fun with it. I downloaded Prodatum a patch librarian and...

    Is this unheard of?

I'm still a little bit worried about that, but in today's little recording I notice any problems. I'm not sure if I should be worried about moisture problems either Like Noisewreck suggested it could all be psychological. I just seemed easier to relax and sing with mic in hand. I also had...

    Is this unheard of?

So the other day I was playing around with my NT2A condenser microphone. I use it primarily for vocals. Which up until now has meant having it setup properly on a stand with a shock mount and a pop filter. But for fun I decided to try just holding the microphone. I switched the 20dB PAD on my...

    recording freq poll

I'm no pro, but 96k/24 bit seems to sound better. It feels like there is so much more depth to the recording. My feeling now is that hard disk space is cheap. I'll let the man doing the dithering worry about the recording frequency and bit rate. I've decided that I'm the one in charge of...

    What's wrong with my mix?

I just had a listen and it sounds pretty good to me. I don't think it needs to go any louder. Thanks for sharing.

compresser/Gate Limiter why you need one

I play keyboards as well and I have never had the same problem. I honestly don't think that you should be the one worrying about these kind of problems. Give your bandmates hell for even asking you about it. If you are having problems like this there are probably bigger problems lurking...

Why DO the vocals sound so cold/dead??

If you post an example I'm sure there are some people on this board who would be willing to help you sort through your problem. I own a SM58 and it really isn't my go-to mic for recording vocals in the studio. If your room is well enough treated with egg cartons and mattresses you might be...

    Night and Day Difference

What a big difference. Thanks for posting. Next time I've finished a track and I'm debating whether or not to take it to the pros I'll have to have another listen. Nice track!
