Fun recording tricks to try...no fixes

I've tried many ways to do various instruments and vocal variations. But, what I still prefer is to lay the tracks clean, then rework them individually or what ever. I have better control and it's much easier for me.

    DP-01, DP-01FX, DP-01FX/CD, 2488, 2488mkII User Experiences

I've a Korg 1200 and 1600. I've had my 2488 almost two years now. There are some things I'd like the 2488 to have that the Korgs have. The 2488 took a bit of getting use to after working with the Korgs for several years, but it's just a easy once you get that worked out. I would like a larger...

    Which digital multitrack is best?

I think you can go to the Korg website and if you poke around you'll find a page that can help you locate a place. I also think Korg is an English company. Should be one around someplace. The 1200 is really nice. I use it when I work with other people on collabs. I use my 1600 on my own...

    Which digital multitrack is best?

Hey Hornet. You know how one kind of car drive differently from another? Well, that's about the best way I can explain it. I like the feel.

Plugging my amp to my computer

This is what I do. I set the mic right up to the grill cloth, but not touching. I aim it toward the center of the speaker cone. Run your mic cable to the "Line In" on your sound card. Start with low volume and increase it as needed. You'll get a nicer sound, in my opinion, by micing the amp...

    Which digital multitrack is best?

I use a Korg, D1200 and a D1600. I don't use them cuz I think they are better sounding. I've tried several brands, took 'em home and used them for a week. What I like about the Korg is the way it's set up. So damn easy to use. As I tried five different ones, I recorded them clean with the...

in what "order" do you guys write songs in?

Chords/melody/lyrics or Riff/Chords/melody/lyrics From there it varies depending on the progress. I don't do the music, then the lyrics, or the other way around. Sometimes my tunes sound nothing like what they originally started as. I write and compose as I goes. I suppose.

    Song structuring

It's been my experience to let the song dictate the structure. Then if it needs some tweaking, I go to work on it. Some songs need a chours between the first and second verse. Some songs can get by with no bridge. Very simple when you think of it.

How to mock a song's chords??

Hi Ray. You've a long row to hoe, Mister. A few months of lessons would set you on the correct path. The note your play that sounds like the chord, may be the root note of the chord. There are chord books for keyboards. One of those will help also.

    Love and above

"Keep it simple". I've heard that a thousand times. It's how they are used in the sentence that really matters.

    "Simple Ideals"

Hey Andy. I have to agree with Fat. There is too much unused clutter in your lyrics. You have three verses and a chorus to tell the story. There are two many unanswered questions that arise. One of the things you have to remember when writing a song is that every word has to count for...

    Blues Boogie

Where will it end, cheap strings? Low end guitars? I'm quite sure the people recording know what gear they use and would certinly upgrade it they had the $ or EU. I don't care what you say, wankin' out on someones gear isn't going to improve the mix with what they have to work with. Hell, I...

I'm proud at this, what do you guys think of it?

Good job, good gutiar work, nice lyrics, and interesting harmony. Well done.

    Blues Boogie

What you'd like to see (real drums) is not a topic in critiquing. We are to be talking about 'music', not the gear used. I'm not defensive, I'm pretty agressive. I want to see and hear music critiqes, not if someone uses a drum machine, or a some other piece of gear that's not acceptable to you...

    Blues Boogie

The drums sound good to me. The whole sample sounds good to me. What's with this crap, "The drums sound fake"? Maybe the guy doesn't have a nice fifteen piece Slingerland kit like you have. Whinning about the drums isn't very constructive, in my opinion. Its more like the author doesn't...

    Guitar Effects On Bass?

It's in the ear of the beholder. My advice is to go to the store and try them out. What one person likes, you may not. Let your own ears be your judge.

    Vintage Gibsons vs. New Gibsons

I recieved a SG for my graduation in 1967. It was stolen in 1996. Now I have a 1998. There is a difference. Same amp, same picks, same strings. Stock SGs, both.
