Allen & Heath System 8 or Tascam m320...or...

I'm going to be setting up an 8-track all analog studio in the next couple years, and have narrowed down my choices for a console to either the A&H System 8 16-16 or the Tascam m320 (or m312). Does anyone have experience with either and recommend one over the other? I'll likely pair it with a...

Digitizing an analog mixdown - how do I set levels?

So I have a few multitrack sessions in the digital domain, 44.1Khz, 24 bit. I'll be mixing down to an analog r2r deck. I'm using -14dBFS as 0dBu. Or trying to anyway...I have to hit the deck with pretty hot levels so that hiss isn't too bad. Once I have a nice mixdown on tape, I then need to...

    General Portastudio question

I have a Tascam 246 Portastudio that I recently refurbished with new belts and idler tires. Transport now works like a charm. I've started recording with it, and have noticed a few things: 1. Track 3 records way hotter than tracks 1,2, and 4. I'll buss the same signal from the same input to...

    Tascam 22-2 or Revox A77?

thanks for the pointers, since it's a mixdown deck (coming from may DAW and or 144/246 portastudios) ill have be hitting it pretty hot. I'll try not using noise reduction for now and see how it goes. I actually don't mind a little tape hiss for my music. here is a photo of the tape i got -...

    Tascam 22-2 or Revox A77?

Hello, as my intro into R2R recorders, I'd like to get a 1/4'' half-track mixdown deck. I'll be mixing down from either my Tascam 246, 144, digital, or live right off of my console. I've narrowed it down to either the Tascam 22-2 or the Revox A77 (probably a mkI since it's cheaper, and not...

    4-tracking in MONO special trick

I just got my Tascam 246 Portastudio running smoothly, and it's been integrated as the main recorder at my home studio. I have a 32-channel board and a bunch of outboard pres and analog synths and drum machines. I'm working on a project in mono, where everything goes into the board, gets...

    246 almost there!

Friends! My 246 Portastudio has been almost completely revamped, thorough cleaning, changed the belts - it runs well, but occasionally 'eats tape,' is this a situation where the pinch roller needs replacing? thanks!

replacing counter belts on tascam 144

There seem to be two counter belts on the 144. I can easily get to one of them by taking the back panel off, but the second one is buried underneath the transport block. Has anyone attempted to replace these? Would i have to take the front panel off?

    Teac/Tascam 144 Belt Woes

Hi guys So my pretty much pristine 144 is no longer functioning, and I am the culprit! I bought the recorder used last year, from a guy who had basically kept it boxed up in a climate controlled environment (SoCal weather is great for that) for the past 20 years. I had already made a number...

just got my first portastudio (144) (moved from tascam)

just landed a 144 for a great price...and the thing is beautiful. Low, low hours, the heads look brand new, the piece has been wrapped in it's original packaging since the early 90's i'd say. manual included too. It used to be used for mixing audio for video, how many projects i don't know, but...

    tascam 144

Clean, working, worth 100USD? I don't see much talk about the 144, is it that much inferior to the 244 and/or 246?

    Tascam mx80 mix mixer

I just picked a clean one up really cheap at a surplus auction. Anyone here ever use one? What are they good for? I thought it might be fun to record drums through them. How the heck to you get phantom power into these things? (if it's still possible)
