Still some love for the old Boss BR1600

I've just replaced my old twin sync'd Boss BR1600 recording rig with a Focusrite 18i20 / Reaper combination and I'd mothballed the Boss machines. On that old setup I'd gone to two midi sync'd Boss units a decade ago because one just didn't have enough inputs to track a full band with acoustic...

    AKG 414 XLS Microphone ID

I don't know if this'll help. This is my B-ULS. It's about 15 years old maybe. It's screen printed with a plastic shock mount and a velvet wind shield. Cheers.

    Behringer XM8500

I sold my drum kit so I'll have to wait for a mate to do a full test of the XM8500's and XM2000's as cheapo tom mikes but in the mean time I do have a conga so maybe I can do a small comparison using that, hit with drum sticks. Nothing fancy and just SM57 v XM8500 v XM2000, no SM58 into a...

    Goodbye old BOSS BR1600's

After 15 years and numerous singles, EP's and albums my old midi sync'd pair of BR1600's recording rig has finally been replaced. Good machines they were for what they were. I'm not selling them though, they have just gone into the 'closet of darkness' to join the other pensioners.

    Post Your Analog Recordings Here...

These are recordings I made back in 1992 that I thought were long lost until an old friend told me last month that she still had one of the original cassette releases we made. I got her to send it to me and recorded it out into a BOSS BR1600, did a bit of EQ and compression and exported it as a...

    Behringer XM8500

I'll add my 2 cents a few months after this thread, having just seen it. I've got an XM8500 and a three pack of XM2000S's that I've had for 15 years or so. I've also got SM57's and 58's. I use the XM8500 as my live mike at least weekly and use one of the XM2000S's as a bv mike for another band...

Yamaha CS30 mono analogue JP - the black knobbed bastard. 1977 I think. I don't really understand it that well, mostly it seems to control me. :)

No, it's running the step sequencer pattern that went down first, everything else was then based around that including the synth lead. I just turned it on when I videoed the stereo mix to make the lights flash  That synth's so old it's pre MIDI :)

I haven't played or recorded anything since 2010 or so. So now I have a go on the Tascam 424 4 track cassette machine and a bunch of old shit and mics. I had no idea how this was going to come out, I just made it up as I went along. It's a bit one chordal, naïve, repetitive, doesn't have much of...

Tascam 488 mkii track 1 no sound.

Stupid question maybe but have you read the manual from end to end, especially the bit about the difference between CUE and MIX? CUE being what you hear through the headphones and MIX what comes out of the mix down. My 424 MKIII can do the same as you describe and it's just that I've got the...

    Any feedback on my conduct?

Cory, I figured you for a top man back in 2008 and 10 years later I have no reason to change that view. :thumbs up:

    Hullo old friends

Lovely guitar Chris, best thing I did recently was force myself to get out and play in front of people again on my own. Although what possessed me to restart my recording on this pile of antiquated nonsense in this age of unlimited tracks of ultra high resolution in the box I have no idea.

    Hullo old friends

I've been away for a while. 7 years it seems since I last picked up an instrument, pressed the record button or said anything on the forum. Thanks to Chili and Steeno I've managed to recover my long forgotten registration and get back on. Great to see some of you analogs still here from back in...

    syncing a tascam 688 and a tsr-8

I spent quite a bit of time trying to sync up my cassette Portastudio's to my digital ones using my PPS-2. The digital Portastudio's would lock to the tape stripe but the resulting wow and flutter on the digital Portastudio's playback as they chased the tape was so noticible that it was...

    Well that's just gR8...

Aye Johnnie, I don't bother with the 10 1/2" reels, I just buy the little 7" ones of 1/4". It's all the R8 can take anyway. I think they come in at about $16 a pop. I still get bulk C60 Type II's for $1.30 each in cases. Last time I bought a hundred to keep my 424 fed for years.
