    When budget gear goes right.

a Camber 17" crash/ride that I got with my very first kit about 18 years ago...I don't have the cymbal as a daily player on my kit - but every now and again I'll put it out for recording -the cymbal sounds great on tape

Good muscians make bad equipment sound good.

this defies logic...but I've heard many a bad cymbal sound great when recorded.... including a pair of b8 hats one of my first cymbals ever, a 16" camber ride/crash combo, actually sounds purty nice recorded as welll...

Embarassed To Even ASK, But Here Goes..

that's cool AlChuck and I stand corrected. I'm basing what I said on my experience with the presonus firestation = the wdm drivers only support 2 channels of audio while asio supports multi-channels... thanks for the insight..

Embarassed To Even ASK, But Here Goes..

audiophile will only allow simultaneous recording of 2 tracks...(a stereo recording) regarding drivers...my understanding is fairly limited - but I think that the main diff. between WDM and ASIO is that WDM only supports 2 channels of digital audio while ASIO supports multiple (>2)

    Best card for recording drums

the aardvark q10 has 8 built-in preamps so you would not need an external preamp/mixer. the delta44 does not have built in preamps, so you would need something external. other than that - the main difference in the 2 is that the q10 has 8 channels and the 44 has 4. If you're planning on...

Can't get my recording system going

sounds like you're having issues far beyond those that performance tweaks can solve....if I were you I would try a fresh install of the operating system on a newly formatted drive and go from there.

Can't get my recording system going

what operating system are you using? Make sure the audigy isn't sharing an IRQ with anything...this will most definitely result in pops&clicks. Also, disable USB as this can cause major problems (as USB is 'hot-swappable' - the computer is constantly checking the port to see if anything new...

Mic setup for drum kit with 5 cymbals ?

I track with a stereo pair of Rode NT3s either in X/Y config. or as a spaced pair...this setup is more than adequate in my book for picking up the cymbals (even hi-hat) - and I'm a drummer! If he doesn't like the panning of the ride....just don't pan hard L/R!! does he understand that a...

kick drum head - holes & sound question

or...you could spend $6 and get these: http://www.explorersdrums.com/product2115.html these things work great. they have adhesive on one side...you stick it where you want the hole to be and then use an exacto knife to cut the head out (the ring is essentially a template). Once the hole is...

CubaseSX does not see my sound card

make sure that the proper driver is selected in the 'System' directory. The Maudio ASIO driver is the one that you want (I think that's what it's called????)

    cUbAse SX multItracking w/ mOtU?

first, a disclaimer - this is for using SX 1 (not 2). not sure how many things have changed between the versions... in the mixer window, each channel will have it's own strip. expand the view to 'wide'. at the top of each strip there is a small 'box' (above the panning and level displays)...

    MOTU 2408 and Wavelab

isn't wavelab only stereo? you might only be able to record using inputs 1&2.....? I don't know how similar the units are....but I have a presonus firestation. I have 2 sets of drivers (ASIO & WDM) - ASIO support all 8 channels while WDM support stereo recording. The WDM drivers (which...

    cUbAse SX multItracking w/ mOtU?

when you go into the audio system dialog, are all 8 of your inputs showing up? if they are, make sure 8 of your vst inputs are all active once the inputs are active you should be able to assign any of your channels to any of the inputs.

    Question about brand quality

well...yes & no. expensive can be better, but it's not always better. you can get good sounds out of a cheap set and you can get bad sounds out of an expensive set. Alot depends on head choice and tuning... Like tmix said, though - hardware is the area where alot of the cheaper kits are...

When a bass drum head is shot?

a hole in the batter head is definitely going to affect the tuning/sound of the drum. If the head was on that drum long enough for the beater to wear the head that thin....then it is definitely time for a new one!!! Pony up the $25 and get a new one...your kick will sound a whole heck of alot...
