audiophile will only allow simultaneous recording of 2 tracks...(a stereo recording) regarding drivers...my understanding is fairly limited - but I think that the main diff. between WDM and ASIO is that WDM only supports 2 channels of digital audio while ASIO supports multiple (>2)

sounds like you're having issues far beyond those that performance tweaks can solve....if I were you I would try a fresh install of the operating system on a newly formatted drive and go from there.

what operating system are you using? Make sure the audigy isn't sharing an IRQ with anything...this will most definitely result in pops&clicks. Also, disable USB as this can cause major problems (as USB is 'hot-swappable' - the computer is constantly checking the port to see if anything new...

do you have the mlan patchbay set up right? are you getting 'green lights' for both input and output in the mlan control panel? are all of your vst inputs active?

when you go into the audio system dialog, are all 8 of your inputs showing up? if they are, make sure 8 of your vst inputs are all active once the inputs are active you should be able to assign any of your channels to any of the inputs.

a hole in the batter head is definitely going to affect the tuning/sound of the drum. If the head was on that drum long enough for the beater to wear the head that thin....then it is definitely time for a new one!!! Pony up the $25 and get a new one...your kick will sound a whole heck of alot...
