8 track rtr for archival project

I can't help really, but wouldn't it be easier to send your tapes off to the guy with the player?

I just tore apart my 424 MKIII

    I'm happy with mine.

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Wow, dunno how I missed the rubber cleaner. Thanks! I'll order some lint free cloth (or is there some handy thing I'd have in my house I can scavenge some from?), and some fader lubricant. And those tapes'll be here on Monday! Thanks!

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Sounds good, thanks. I can't find that rubber cleaner though, could somebody link me? Also, I do have no idea what I'd want to do with it. Thanks!

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

For me it depends. I payed for Mackie Tracktion 2 because I really love the program, and it's not a super big name. I wouldn't pay for Protools/what have you huge company because the price would be prohibitive, and I really don't think it's worth what they charge for it.

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Thanks very much, I'll be sure to watch the levels closer. It just seemed so quiet to listen to through the headphones at lower input volumes. I ordered 10 SM-60 tapes, does that sound good for a start? As for tape head cleaner, I looked for that too, but couldn't find the stuff mentioned in...

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Yeah, I'm going DI for now, since it's pretty late and I don't wanna wake anybody up. I'm actually using a standard bias tape right now, haven't had a chance to get any others yet.

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Bizarre. Nice to know I'm not alone though, I'm glad my recorder isn't broken or anything. I just tested it, putting in a signal over +6 decimals always seems to hang out in the background. No big deal, I guess I just have to record properly in the first place. One other thing, with DBX on...

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

Hmm...the deal here is that stuff on track 3, that's all the way down, is bleeding through so I can hear it, even when NOTHING else on the mixer is up. All individual tracks+the master. Shouldn't it just be quiet in this instance? Could it be that I just recorded the audio in that track 3 way...

Can't totally get rid of audio from some tracks on 424mkIII

So on my new 424, when I try to record something onto an already used tape, you can still hear stuff in the background, regardless of if you turn down all the faders and tape cue knobs. How do I fix this? Thanks!

    political death metal polka ballad

This'll be awesome guys...I wish there was some way to help, but I don't excel in anything in particular, don't have uber-schnazzy gear and it seems like y'all have got it all covered. Can't wait to hear the final. :D

Thank you Mom - listen and critique

The song's a nice song for mother's day, but quite honestly the vocals in here are pretty bad. They sorta go all over the place. The double tracked vocals don't fit that well together. Still, good song, good idea, vocals could use work though.

Trade 10 Pack of Type I Cassettes for Some Type IIs?

Already have a Presonus Firebox that I can record with; I just like having something physical in front of me that I can work with. Plus, I prefer the sound of tape.

    spring reverb question

Yeah, it sounds like you're outputting a line level, which is way too loud.

Trade 10 Pack of Type I Cassettes for Some Type IIs?

Yeah, but I really have no use for them. When I finish my recordings I'm just gonna dump them onto my computer for CD, or more likely mp3 use. :)

On a Tascam Porta02, will using a type 1 tape be noisier than a type 2?

Yep, I know. It's really just for taking down song ideas, not for serious recording.

Trade 10 Pack of Type I Cassettes for Some Type IIs?

I have 10 Sony, Normal Bias, Type 1 tapes. I'd like to trade for some type IIs for my Tascam recorders. 9 are totally unused, in wrapping, and one has been briefly experimented upon. Works fine, don't worry. Thanks!

On a Tascam Porta02, will using a type 1 tape be noisier than a type 2?

Alright good, because I'm having some noise issues. Gotta get some type IIs sometime soon.

What mods have you done to your cry baby?

Hold up, before you totally replace the pot, use some compressed air to blow out the pot, and then put in some pot lubricant. This fixes most pots in my experience. Instead of true bypassing the wah, how about making a true bypass looper box? Four jacks in a box with that switch and you'll be...

    Will it? Thanks!
