    Experience with Seventh Circle?

Good stuff. Don't be afraid to buy from them. You might want to look at the T15 or C84 for a "clean" preamp.

How do you solder quad cable?

First thing I would do is get different solder, espically if your new to soldering. Get some 63/37 stuff, you will be able to make good joints with that. When your soldering, dont drip the solder onto the joins, what you need to do is heat up the parts and let the solder flow. a couple years...

    white album guitars

It depends on your home studio...I know the best acoustic guitar sound I ever got was with a Royer 121 ribbon mic, with a 2500$ guitar, into an 2000$ mic pre...if you want a great guitar sound with crappy equipment..it's most likely not going to happen.

Nah, you havn't gone mental... I havn't been to the BBS in a while and was suprised to see this thread resurfacing. I did the mod to MarkH's mic and it turned out really good. I only did the mod to see what it sounded like. So that said, I dont think I would be interested in doing it...

Woah rossi, dont blow your load just yet....telefunken made their share of junk too. the beatles did not use this desk, even if the beatles did use this desk it's no reason to buy it. more research has to be done before it can be determined if this is a good deal or not. these pre's are not...

    old telefunken tube preamps

    Mixing phantom with non-phantom mics

As long as the wiring in the mic and the phantom feed is correct, nothing will happen. Some old rca's had the center tap of the transformer secondary shorted to ground and that would certainly cause a problem, but all you have to do is lift that and the mic would be prefectly happy working with...

    LA-4 compressor

They are different compressors, they sound different. I've found in my experience that the La-4 is a very thin compessor. JR#97, FWIW, I've never heard of an LA-4 "tube comp"....were you thinking of the LA-2 or LA-2A?
